I was wrong. The "executive privilege" excuse is just a cover.

20. Share with us your information on this "executive privilege" thing.
Is it a privilege or not and if it is, tell us why it wouldn't apply in this situation.

4. Cronus, could you explain this?
I'm not arguing with you. This seems to be obvious to everyone here, but I don't get it. Why would she be the fall guy? Why is she any more responsible than anyone else?

Do you just mean that they have chosen her as scapegoat, or that there is some reason why they can pin it on her? And what exactly would they pin on her?

In the dark.

5. She failed to have the president call a cabinet meeting
in February, at Clarke's behest. The letter he wrote was to her and the meeting was never held until September 4. During the spring and summer of 2001, she never had the president convene a cabinet level meeting IN SPITE of the high level of "chatter." Remember her job: NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER. It's her responsibility to recommend actions for the president to take. What exactly was she recommending that he do? Invade Iraq?

Problem is bush* can't have the first one to take the fall in his good ole boy administration be the black woman. She was used by bush* for his "compassionate conservatism" softer side of KKK/racist campaign and now bush* is stuck. This is why the books by those that have left, they know someone has to take the fall and they want to be sure it ain't them. It will all come down when the remaining white men good ole boys fight amongst themselves for who gets thrown to the wolves!

WHY did she fail? Because she isn't strong enough to stand up against Bush, Rummy, Wolfowitz, et al, who were in a conspiracy to invade Iraq regardless of evidence or facts and for power and monetary gain.

23. I knew Navy pilots talking this scenario in 1986.
They would sit around with a kegger (no flight duty for 48 or whatever hours) and discuss: "Could you shoot down a civilian airliner if you were ordered because it was hijacked?" The scenario included "It is headed to DC," or "WTC" etc.

Condi is a liar, and a bad one at that.

13. Question Her Patriotism
The Commission is trying to find out how the national security apparatus failed on September 11th. Surely the testimony of the National Security Adviser is important for them to do their job. On the surface, it appears that Condoleezza Rice is putting personal considerations over the national interest. That's unpatriotic.

17. Bush was incompetant...
and no one (even most on the right) never really thought much of his intellect or knowledge about world affairs. His thinking is simplistic and it was sold at that (black and white/ good guys vs bad guys, etc). The nuances were left up to others, the "adults are back in charge" as the RWers said.

The "adults" fucked up. They fucked up big time.

It's her job to issue all intelligence to the president. THat's her job description. She gets info from the CIA and NSA and she gives the president the briefing. It seems very unlikely she even did a good job in briefing him and from what Clarke said, she never even held the "battlestation" that was supposed to be held.

I want this entire administration gone, but I can't think of anyone more I despise in this administration than her (OK I probably can but she's near the top). She's proven herself incompetant and uninformed -- For God's sake she hadn't even HEARD of Al Qaeda before entering office (and probably hadn't even given them any thought until 9/11).

32. Being a "Soviet expert" in 2001
Was about as useful as being an expert on the Byzantine Empire.

Her appointment was rank plantation pandering, just like Clarence. They were grooming her for this for years. I can remember that ass Ben Stein slobbering over her at the '92 convention. She was their big hope and now...she's getting a choice of blindfold on or off.

I vote for "on". It would be an appropriate metaphor.

21. how?
This was planned before she was in gov't? Unless you think she aided and abbteed in some way? I think we've gone WAY too overboard in blaming on any individual. This built up slowly over time (on Clinton's watch) and hit on 9/11 (on Bush's watch). Bush as well as Clinton administration are "to blame" in that they didn't take out the Al Queda, but no one would have supported such an operation UNTIL 9/11 changed the domestic political and foreign policy mindset. There was no one (politically speaking) at all calling for an attack on Al Queda before 9/11.

I guess that would be the point of her testifying. Also, if we knew the secrets, they wouldn't be secrets. If she has nothing to hide, she should testify at least for the well-being of the families of the victims of 9/11 and for the peace and mind of all fellow Americans. There should be no reason for her not to testify, and the fact that she won't is pretty damn scary.

38. A big "attack" on Al Qaeda was not needed at the time...
Adoption of airline security measures recommended (partly) by Albert Gore would have helped prevent 9/11.

Use of knowledge volunteered by foreign intelligence agencies & our own FBI fieldworkers could have helped. But the only ones protected were Ashcroft, deciding to avoid commercial flights beginning July 2001. And Bush & Cheney, deciding at the same time to take month-long vacations in August.

The current spin is--hey, we couldn't get permission to go bomb those people. Random bombing is not the best way to fight terrorism. Indeed, 9/11 gave the government a good excuse to start wars. First in Afghanistan, with a somewhat weak link to the attack. Then in Iraq, with exactly NO link. Which is why it was allowed to happen.
