Clarke on GMA today - "I have a bullet proof vest." A metaphor?
I watched the interview this morning and thought I heard Gibson ask Clarke about the attacks by the WH against him. I recall Clarke responding with, "I have a bullet proof vest."

When I first heard it I thought that he may have meant he has evidence to back up his claims; evidence or another witness. I thought of Berger. Some have suggested he said he was going to get a bullet proof vest or that he was implying someone might try to kill him.

Did anyone else see the interview the way that I did? Did I get his comment wrong? It nagged at me today when I was at work (and the server was down.) Thanks.

2. The owner of our local independent bookstore said to me today
"I hope people don't start dying over this." I was puzzled. I said, "People are already dying."

Later I realized what he meant.

Everything else about the 1960s seems to be replaying now - corrupt Republican administration, war under false pretenses, lying....

No assassinations, please. It is a chilling thought.

I think that Clarke is safe. He's already published his book. What about others who might be thinking about coming forward?

9. He's not in the clear, yet. Valerie Plame was outed after...
...Joe Wilson went public. It was a "warning" that went unheeded by Mr. Clarke. If b*sh chooses to do so, he will make an example out of him.

4. I think as you originally did, I think this guy was smart enough to gather
some evidence against the idiot and his crew of whackos, and he has it hidden in a safe place. At least, I hope it's safe. Because bush* has a lot of people who will not hesitate a heartbeat to discredit, or eliminate this guy (one way or another).

8. well, the bushies are assaulting his character

not the facts in the book.

WHICH, remember, the WH vetted in advance of the book's release.

NOTHING about the Clarke book (in terms of content) was ANY surprised to the insipid chimp and his handlers.

Clarke's facts has to be SO good that they couldn't suppress it.

that is saying SOMETHING, huh?

10. I think they all have made alliances that brought them protection.
Beers aligned with Kerry before he came out against Bush's terror policies. Wilson was aligned with Kerry before he outed the bad intel.

Clarke's closest friend is Beers amd he can't publicly align with Kerry now that he is the nominee....BUT....no doubt the information needed has been shared amongst a certain powerful group of Democrats, including Clinton, which offers a greater amount of protection for them and their families.

11. Meanwhile, In the White House Strategy Room
ON TV
Gibson: What about attacks on you from the White House?
Clarke: I have a bulletproof vest.

Rove (into walkie-talkie): Tell your men to aim for the head. I repeat, aim for the head.

Ashcroft: Roger.
