It is located in the so-called "Horn" of Africa, near Ethiopia and Somalia. We should be VERY familiar with that region.

18. No one on the Panel
Seems concerned about the issue at hand. I thought this was supposed to be the 9/11 commission. They are so roundabout that at this rate it will take 40 years to get to the truth. The only thing that may help is if they bring on a witness interested in the truth and will spill the beans in their summary. Pray it's Richard Clarke.

120. Nope
I didn't hear any mention of the money, but I was only listening to Colin on-and-off via the Internet.

Nor did I hear anybody ask him about the State Dept meeting held with the Taliban in the summer of 2001, the one where Christina Rocco (SP?) of the State Dept said that the Taliban better accept the pipeline dead, or face a carpet of gold or a carpet of bombs.

Powell was her boss when this alleged meeting took place. So he should know all about whether the meeting went down or not, and whether it was a threat about the UNOCAL pipeline.

To me it seemed like Powell was allowed to go on and on about how great the Bush junta's response was AFTER the 9.11.01 attacks. He sounded like a campaign commercial--our plan after the attacks is just great, and since we finally have a great plan, you had better keep us in office, because our post 9.11 plan is so great.

Also, when Armitage spoke, I couldn't help but wonder why the guy isn't in JAIL for his Iran-Contra crime spree. He effing lied under oath to congress back then. And NOW he is a credible witness?!? They really do think we are THAT STUPID. Whoever said it earlier was right: our democracy is on life support.

112. To me, this was the most devastating thing Powell said.
As opposed to what he DIDN'T say. He didn't say they didn't go after Iraq because there was no proof Saddam was involved. He said, they didn't go after Iraq because the American people would not have understood an attack on Iraq in relation to September 11. It's subtle, but obvious that the way he won that argument with Wolfowitz was by making him see that people wouldn't agree with Iraq in this instance. So obviously it was put on the back burner and it was RELUCTANTLY agreed that Afghanistan would be the target.

But no questions were asked about when Iraq became a topic for the Bush administration. Of course, I think without a doubt that the commission members are aware of everything we know. How could they not be? And if that's the case, then they're doing a masterful job of covering up. I can't reach any other conclusion.

shows incompetence and poor team effort. All goes back to Bush. Doesn't know how to manage people, can't run a government, let alone fight terrorism.

Powell also clearly lying about terrorism being a priority when the facts contradict that statement.

what a bastard. He keeps making personal statements...who cares..you little egomaniac. The boob is wasting time and not asking questions. He opened his line of questioning with no questions but with a joke, laughter. Just when the previous guy had Powell and Talmage on the ropes. God I can slap that stupid boob.

Powell again trying to spin- on the radio I can't see his face, but he sounds nervous- lots of uhhs.

Ahhh- Clarke will be on tomorrow- that will be good.

Powell- "The options were no options..."

110. Tell C-Span how you feel about cutting away from the hearings.
Call C-Span and tell them how pissed you are that they did this.

I called the main number and told the switchboard operator that I wanted to know why they cut away. She said she would transfer me to the comment line. I told her I wanted to talk to a human there, not just leave a recorded message. She said all she could do is transfer me and that her switchboard is "going wild" over the switch to the House. I told her I understood it wasn't her decision, but I hoped she would tell who ever did decide about the response. She gave a nervous chuckle and said, oh, they know all right.

Then I called the Viewer Services line. After a delay because of high call volume a guy came on and said that their charter demanded they cover the House and Senate when they were in session. I told him there is NOTHING the House could do today that is more important than the 9/11 Commissioin hearings. He said they will most likely re-play the hearings late at night.

Now I'm calling my Rep (Danny Davis) and as many other house members I can think of to ask that they propose the House close their session today and tomorrow to allow for C-Span to cover this. (toll free to Congress 1-800-648-3516)

One more thing. Does anyone have access to C-Span 3? I can't find it in any cable package.

As C-Span II must cover all Senate Sessions. It's part of the deal which allows Cameras into the two bodies. C-Span III was set up to cover the stuff the others couldn't when the two houses are in session. C-Span III is covering the hearings now.

First, the pentagon wasn't interested in terrorism, just geopolitics, so they would not have written up any adequate response to requests by a civilian government concerning terrorism pre-9/11. Terrorists attacked us because our footprint is all over the middle east. So we respond by extending our footprint more as a response. Anyone besides me see a circle?

Cohen didn't necessarily run with the question, though he did say that the reason the Clinton administration didn't attack Al Qaeda was BECAUSE TENET TOLD THEM THE INTEL WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH. Could Tenet have been in on the whole thing all the way back to the Clinton admin?
