Something that is driving me NUTSO re: Clarke
(note the 'e', hee hee)

So, people are coming out and saying (about Clarke), the timing, oh, the timing, he's got a book just now out, blah blah blah, and then they turn to the "analyst" and say, "What do you think? Is the timing of this suspect because he has a book which just came out?" and I want to scream and yell, because no one would be paying attention to this at all if he didn't have a book out, it wouldn't be news, and besides...

ALL THESE "ANALYSTS" ETC HAVE BOOKS OUT WHICH THEY ARE WHORING AT THE SAME TIME THEY ARE GRIPING ABOUT CLARKE'S TIMING WITH HIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

1. The Republicans
Are terrified of a fair fight; so they are doing everything they can to force us to back down--it's kind of like when you play basket ball--and you spend all your time talking to the guy who you are guarding, hoping to throw him off his game. That's what they are trying to do to us.

2. He answered that this morning on CNN....said the White House held up
the publishing by not releasing permission for it to be published before....Apparently there is something about the W.H. having to allow it....He said he wanted to publish it last December!....The timing of it is the fault of the White House!

4. He said on Charlie Rose last night that he turned it over to the WH in
November 2003!! For examination to make sure he hadn't violated national security, as anyone who has top secret security clearance must do.
He said it wasn't his fault that they delayed it and that it came out in the middle of election season!!LOL

12. He was a major source for the Time article in August 2002, just a few...
...months after 9-11 (and he was still working in the WH, so understandably could only say so much).

If he left his position 13 months ago (? I think that's what they're saying), that means he left office about Feb. 2003. The book was ready in the Fall of 2003.

I would think it would take most of this time to write a book. And I can totally understand him thinking a book was the best way to go about this. If he just started offering his commentary to news outlets, he'd just be another talking head. A book by an knowledgeable insider, however, carries much more weight.

Besides, what is wrong with waiting until an election year to air serious greivances you have with a presidential candidate? (although I do not think he has purposely done this) If I had knowledge of serious deficiencies regarding our national security based on a president's performance, I would air that information at a time most appropriate to result in the removal of that president from office. That, I would think, is what is in the best interest in the country.

You could argue that he should make his greivances known at the earliest possible date to potentially save lives. But that assumes the administration would hear him and change their ways. He'd already been up that creek. No, the best way for his story to have an effect is to release a book, and being in an election year doesn't hurt. It contains much information which the voters could use in making their decision in November.

9. You can bet the WH WANTED it out now, so they could dismiss it as...
... "election-year politics". I heard that on Rose, too, last night, and that's the first thought that came to my mind.

Besides, he came out with much of the same info, simply not in book-length form, in the Time Magazine Article of August 2002 (for which he was apparently a major source). And that was before he retired.

Besides, it takes time to write a book, MORANS! And he's certainly not going to do it while holding his WH position.

In addition, with the Iraq War, the stakes were raised. He took issue with the Bush administration for ignoring the terrorist threat before 9-11 and not properly addressing it after 9-11. But after the Iraq War, his disagreements with the administration grew much deeper, as this war severely impacted the fight against terrorism by both siphoning off needed resources and fomenting hatred of the U.S. in the Islamic world.

8. And yet Soledad later said "why did Clarke bring it out now?" to another
Democrat she was questioning.....This was after Hemmer had earlier gotten the answer from Clarke as to why....Apparently she doesn't listen to what others say when she is not the questioner.

the WH response is: "It's politically motivated, just look at the timing." Not, "These allegations are false."

Hmmmm....

11. Well of course...bait and switch, distract and obfuscate...these are the
tactics of frightened, cornered people who know damn well they have not a leg to stand on. They have NO record, they have NO positive accomplishments, they display NO leadership (sorry, buttmunches, photo ops do not count....)
It's the sorriest lot of losers to occupy the White House since Nixon and Rayguns and Bush I (man, we've had a lot of losers in the WH in my lifetime...damn....)

15. They're Accessories to The Cover-Up
Here's the best response:

An election year is a referendum on the President's leadership and an alternative to the President's leadership. As elections are a referendum, it is only fitting and completely expected that all important issues will arise. That's they way it should be, not the way it shouldn't be.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is an accessory to a cover-up.

16. Do they think he wrote it OVERNIGHT?
Listening to them, you'd think Clarke just decided a few months ago to screw up the election for Bush, so he sat down over a weekend and wrote the book.

Books take months and months to write. Obviously, Clarke was bothered by this well over a year ago.

17. election season
I love how "the timing is troubling."

These mutant's hostility to democracy is breath-taking. Why not just say, "an election is hardly the place to air differences with the government."

Too bad nobody read the Bush team's briefs in BUSH v. GORE. Their entire argument was based on the fact that individual Americans have no constitutional right to vote for president. That's actually correct, constitutionally, but it scared me that a would-be president would make that argument in briefs with his name on them.

18. Did anyone see one of Rice's deputies on Hardball
He trotted out this publisher papers saying the Clarke book was originally scheduled to be published at end of April. He kept trying to hold it up to Tweety like it was some kind of smoking gun. Look here - they pushed it up to make money cause Clarke was testifying this week.

Like that somehow made Clarke a liar and made Bushies all pure.

Then he resorted to the typical repug crap that if he went to find the book he'd find it in fantasy fiction or something.

Then he took a quote completely out of context wherein Clarke said Bush stepped right in to Osama's trap by going in to Iraq and said at the end it was like Osama had placed the thoughts in Bush's head by chanting "Invade Iraq, Invade Iraq." Bushbot implied that Clarke's book was X-File stuff of Osama mind-controlling Bush.

Wish I'd have taped it, no transcript up. Hell, Jon Stewart could use it.
