British soldier on fire in Iraq ...that Kevlar plastic no doubt melts
Edited on Mon Mar-22-04 11:13 PM by amen1234

into your skin....one of those easy-to-make molatov cocktails...mostly gasoline in a soda bottle...

training should tell you: stop, drop and roll...don't increase the flames by running like this soldier is doing....

1. Many hours after this happened,
I heard on a TV show (Lou Dobbs possibly??) that these British soldiers were attacked, but no one was seriously injured. I was wondering if they didn't consider 3rd degree burns serious.

9. Maybe they didn't get 3rd degree burns?
If he'd been a bare-chested hero on the receiving end of the petrol
bomb then he'd have been cut and burned. Fortunately he was a smart
guy who kept his gear on and it did the job for which it was designed.

5.  bigger version shown in Today's WP, page A10....with little children
watching this coalition soldier burn.....the bigger photo is damning....the children watching nearby....

also, it was discussed on C-span this morning.....Americans need to see the horror of bush* actions....the REAL horror, not the bush* 'Happy Iraqi" sanitized version....

this 'burning soldier' photo exemplies the bush* policies of leaving our soldiers as 'sitting ducks' in Iraq....in addition...the soldiers failure to react properly (stop, drop, roll) shows failures to properly train troops....the horror of melting Kevlar bullet-proof vests (which are plastics) is a new major weapon for Iraqis....easy to make, gasoline bottle bombs (known as Molotov cocktails) can MELT those high-tech plastics right into OUR soldiers skin.....

it's time to bring OUR troops home....stop bush*'s follies with OUR soldiers lives.....

6. Explain.....
What does Bush have to do with British training methods?

"the soldiers failure to react properly (stop, drop, roll) shows failures to properly train troops."

You got that from one photo? A video I could see but it seems from the photo that the soldier is trying to remove his helmet and gear rathering then running.

"also, it was discussed on C-span this morning.....Americans need to see the horror of bush* actions....the REAL horror, not the bush* 'Happy Iraqi" sanitized version...."

The purpose of which is pure shock value similar to people jumping from the towers or aborted fetuses.

Personally, I rather with an argument than emotionally blackmail people. But that'sjust me.

7. same reasoning that causes bush* to order 'no photos' of returning
DEAD American Soldiers...and bush* imbedded reporter trick....

There's clearly a burning soldier running in this photo...BTW, why don't soldiers have non-flammable clothing....that would be a simple protective factor in a WAR !

The vulnerability of coalition troops (which is mostly USA troops) is very clear in this photo...this burning soldier photo has been shown now all across America....OUR soldiers are 'sitting ducks'...and more people are becoming aware of that....it's the reality of bush* war, poor planning, and bush* sending OUR troops into his oil war...

"the soldiers failure to react properly (stop, drop, roll) shows failures to properly train troops." does not say 'bush*', so why claim that?

However, this is bush* war....typical bush*-war-suffering photo....it should be shown to every American, to teach about war....and it should alert the shrub to a new and simple tactic (simple: like homemade donkey-bombs and roadside bombs)....simple, but effective, plastic-melting molotov cocktails....expect more of the same...it's these incredibly low-tech attacks that shrub can't understand...

to hide the war, bush* tries to keep this stuff out of the papers and news....if America could see it...all of it...WAR....it would end bush* wars ASAP....show it all...stop hiding the returning American Dead bodies, stop hiding the funerals of OUR soldiers, stop controlling the press by embedding them and killing them...show it all...show what we pay for....show the KILLING and the terror created by bush*...

the pictures of people jumping from the twin towers remind us that bush* continued to read a catapillar book to little kids while desperate people jumped.....good reason why most reTHUGlicans don't like to see those photos....

8. He didn't "fail to react properly"
When wearing flammable clothing soaked with flammable liquid, you
remove said clothing if practical (helmet and jacket in this case).
Moving slowly forward keeps the flames out of your face while doing so.
AFTER this, you drop and roll in the dust.

The person best suited to remove a helmet quickly is the wearer.
The person best suited to remove a jacket quickly is the wearer.
The flames can be largely left behind on the (replaceable) clothing
rather than spread into (less replaceable) hair or skin.

This isn't a failure of training (by Bush or anyone else).
It is a practical lesson learned by experience in Northern Ireland by
troops who were in exactly the same situation that they are facing in
Iraq. (Actually, they were in the situation that Iraq is going to be
in very soon as the Irish know how to make *proper* Molotovs - sticky
as well as hot - rather than "simple" petrol bombs as in this case).

It is something that the inexperienced (in this respect) US soldiers
might want to add to their "book-learning".

10. Forget it.
Much easier to claim the media are lying and that in fact they must have been seriously injured rather than believe that an army with exoerience of petrol bombings may train it soldiers how to properly avoid actually getting seriously injured.

Just dropping and rolling whilst covered in flammable substances will leave you burning AND a target.

13. Actually A brief bit of research
turns up this kind of information

KEVLAR has the main characteristic does not melt and support combustion under normal environmental condition and carbonizes at about 800 degree F (427 degree C). It is suitable on sewing application where short-term flame or heat resistance is required. In commonly for seaming operation on protective clothing, used by fireman welder’s gloves, police and military etc.

Try googling Kevlar.

Your post is essentially untrue.
