9/11 Commission to examine events of that day.
Apparently they aren't just going to look at the run up to 9/11. They are going to examine what actually happened on that day, develop timelines, question responses, etc.

Today's Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/politics/administration/whbriefing/">White House Briefing by Dan Froomkin references an article by Scot J. Paltrow in the WSJ (subscriber service only) that "writes about how the commission is trying to fill the gaps and inconsistencies in the government account about what actually happened on Sept. 11."

"Among other things, the commission is examining such questions as how long Mr. Bush remained in a Florida classroom just after the World Trade Center strikes, whether there really was a threat to Air Force One that day, how effectively American fighter jets reacted to the attacks, and who activated the national-emergency-response plan."

White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, who famously whispered in the president's ear, "A second plane hit the second tower. America is under attack," has previously said that Bush left the Florida classroom he was sitting in within seconds. But uncut videotape of the classroom visit obtained from the local cable-TV station director who shot it, and interviews with the teacher and principal, show that Mr. Bush remained in the classroom not for mere seconds, but for at least seven additional minutes. He followed along for five minutes as children read aloud a story about a pet goat. Then he stayed for at least another two minutes, asking the children questions and explaining to Ms. Rigell that he would have to leave more quickly than planned."

Paltrow writes: "Both Republican and Democratic commissioners have said they are focusing closely on what happened next -- and whether mere minutes could have affected the outcome on Sept. 11. The panel's investigators are looking at questions such as the timeliness of presidential orders about intercepting the jet that at 9:37 a.m. plowed into the Pentagon."

Paltrow also writes that Bush could not have been telling the truth when he told a town-hall meeting in December, 2001: "I was sitting outside the classroom, waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower -- the TV was obviously on. And I used to fly myself, and I said, 'Well, there's one terrible pilot.' " There was no such video until late that night, and the TV wasn't even plugged in, Paltrow writes."

I know most of us on this board already know this stuff, but most of America covered their ears and loudly chanted 'LA LA LA' so they wouldn't hear it. They're about to get a whole face full.

3. I think you're talking some serious shit when the WSJ writes about it
The story is now hitting the fan. The Clarke story is all over the place. I was shocked how much Dan Abrams tore into some RW talking head tonight. The media will turn on the administration and kick it while it's down, just like they do to everyone else.

5. I think the committee should get as much testimony as possible
in public. On record, under oath, on TV. It will create public pressure to extend the deadlines and allow them to finish their jobs.

6. There were at least 3 local news stations
at Booker Elementary that morning. Here's a picture of all the video cameras that were set up at the back of the classroom. There is more than one tape of the president and his reactions, as a matter of fact there's a lot more tape. All video tape from all the media that was shooting film that morning needs to be subpoenaed, not just the one that Booker Elem had up on their website for a little while.

7. HOME RUN! The Grand Jury needs to see the high-res news pro tapes.
Big Brother probably ordered them destroyed by now. Someone's got a copy, though, just for such Constitutional emergencies.

The BFEE is in a heap of hot gas, now. And you know the Pentagon and the rest of the government know it, too.

8. They leave out the best part
After disappearing from view for several minutes, * appeared in front of a backdrop of students (always the photo-op) and said that we would take action "against the folks who did this" (yes, he used the word "folks") and that he was leaving to return directly to Washington.

I haven't seen this little factoid in any timelines.

10. I had forgotten the 'Folks' comment.
I remember thinking at the time 'Folks?? Folks??' Thought that was a weird response. Did he really come back into the classroom to say this? This was before he left for the plane? Unbelievable.
