7. poor little brainwashed bastard
he obviously has Bush-base parents.

my stepdaughter hates George Bush, not because I try to get her to, but because she just picks up on it around here.

blame the parents.

I didn't mean to imply that you were responsible. My apologies.

Whomever is in charge of the Congress.org content is responsible - unless, of course, the girl's family gave permission for the address to be published.

15. They will print whatever is typed into the body of the letter. Whoever
wrote it included the address. I'm not trying to be argumentative, just explaining they don't cut out anything other than a few expletives. When I write, I always put my email address in the text so it will be visible...like this krs@vigoris.net

See, I have no reason to hide from the wingnuts and welcome the chance to fling shit back in their faces.

17. Could be a COPPA violation
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/coppa.htm

I didn't see any warnings about age restrictions during the posting process.

From Congress.org's privacy policy:

http://congress.org/congressorg/info/privacy.html

When you submit your message for inclusion in our online "Letters to Leaders" section, the text of your message and your city of residence will be displayed online. No personal information about you will be disclosed to the public as long as you do not include that information in the body of the message.

18. Thanks for the COPPA link, I never really bothered to read up on it,
but isn't this different? There is no overt effort to 'collect' any of this kind of information at congress.org. And as you also point out, they only divulge the city of residence, no "personal information about you...as long as you do not include in the body of the message."

From what I see in the COPPA info, it seems pretty clear that congress.org is not, by any stretch of imagination, a forum intended to cater to children.

We don't know the age of this writer, it could well be 17 (too young to vote, according to the author) or possibly much lower, and of course the possibility it was written by an adult under the nom de plume of an adolescent for obvious reasons is clear as well. In fact, I rather suspect that is the case.

In any case, whoever did create the letter did so with the obvious intent to have hir address included. (It could well be from a 9th grader just learning secretarial skills which would include just such a salutation and header for a formal letter.)

Maybe somebody will write a snailmail to that address and find out.
;-)

It's Official: Bush Hijacked the War on Terrorism

March 22, 2004

Appearing on the "Sixty Minutes" television program yesterday (CBS), former conterterrorism advisor Richard Clarke described President Bush and his advisors as focused on Iraq before and after 9/11, not Al Qaeda. An advisor to all presidents starting with Ronald Reagan and retiring in 2003, Clarke warned President Bush passionately about the threat of Al Qaeda to the United States before 9/11 happened. He was greeted with skepticism, and told by Paul Wolfowitz that he was overestimating Bin Ladin's importance.

Just after 9/11, President Bush asked him to find all information tying Iraq to the attacks and Al Qaeda. Donald Rumsfeld also stated that there were few good bombing targets in Afghanistan, and the government should consider bombing Iraq.

13. Interesting site
here's another letter:

To:
President George Bush

March 22, 2004

For you to allow that fat pig Sharon to kill Sheik Yassim and in all probability visit another attack on my country is outrageous.

A bit of advice for you Mr. Bush. Kill Sharon, Netanyahu, and Pinkas.

Until these swine are dead there will never be peace in the middle east.

While you are at it put a bullet in your own brain.

Yikes!!
