Watts to Ledger: Take gay cowboy role
Ledger will soon start filming Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain," based on a story by E. Annie Proulx. In the movie, Ledger is a cowboy who has a yen for a ranch hand played by Gyllenhaal.

"It's an important love story for this generation," Ledger insists. "No one is breaking new ground with love stories. They just keep repeating familiar themes. I'm excited about the prospect of maybe smashing some taboos with this film but it still scares the hell out of me.

1. Cool! Good for him!
Should be interesting, and it's good he is willing to take such a risk this early in his career.

2. Ledger is on the freeper's
"boycott" list. If it's Naomi Watts telling him to do it, FWIW, I would do just about anything she told ME to do :wow:

3. I think he really is scared to do it.

I read a recent article that quotes him saying, "I'm big and brave enough to do this."

I like his honesty. This is a big deal. Especially to young gay youth. I looked over the short story and there is explicit sex between the two cowboys. I don't know how far they will go, but I think it could be pretty far.

I agree about Naomi Watts. She's a hottie!!

edit: misspellings

4. I read a review of this story several years ago but lost the source
Couldn't remember the name or the author. This is the first time I've found it since and I'm thrilled. Thanks so much for this thread!

We lesbians have had some mainstream movies lately. Now it is your turn!

Ang Lee is a superb director --- I loved Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I think this is going to be really well done!
