....they're striking because GM decided to cut their healthcare benefits and drop their wages on top of THAT!! Not lookin' good at all....we've had 1200 jobs lost in this town already because STATE FARM insurance is pickin' up and leavin' after havin' been located here all my life...that's 30+ years! :evilfrown:

UAW optimistic about Guide deal

March 18, 2004

A local United Auto Workers officer said he is "optimistic" that a new contract for Guide Corp. workers can be reached before a Friday night deadline, but he admitted that progress is slow.

"Our top issue is job security," said Roger Smith, chairman of UAW Local 1977. "It's what the whole country is worried about. We want to keep these jobs at that Monroe plant."

Didn't IBM get sued for pulling just this stunt? Negotiation is one thing; extortion is another. Gotta keep those fat cats happy even if it destroys another community.

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear this. We continue the fight our parents and grandparents thought they had won. There is just no end to evil.
