WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal regulators continued their crackdown on indecency Thursday, issuing a fine for a broadcast of the Howard Stern radio show and ruling that an expletive uttered by rock singer Bono on NBC violated broadcast standards.

Phone your Senators. This time it was $27,000, next time it will be $500,000 if the bill passed by the House ("Decency Enforcement Act of 2004") passes the Senate.

Tell your Senators not to vote for increased FCC fines.

The free Capitol Switchboard number is:
1-800-839-5276

sample phone words:
Hello, can I speak with the office of Senator _______?

Hello, my name is ____, can I speak to someone about the FCC bill?

I'd like to leave a message for Senator _____, please vote against increasing FCC fines. This bill would hurt freedom-of-speech.

10. Bono IS a Bushie
Or was anyway. But remember...he was still a longhair, a rock star, a foreigner, etc...he was easy to throw to the wolves. Didn't cost the pubbies a dime. They milked him to try to show they were "cool," so laughably ridiculous! But...ptewwi...spit him out. Used him up. On to the next soul to suck dry.

15. Bono a Bushie?
Bushit! :)

Bono worked with Bush and his minions to ameliorate some of the terrifying problems that the African people are experiencing -- poverty, AIDS, tyranny and genocide, hunger, disease, and governments bearing enormous international aid debt loads.

Bush actually did lend a hand. It was good politics. And Bono was a good politician for being nice to Bush. But Bono himself is quite progressive.

"Tuesday, 4 Mar 2003
Irish rocker Bono has slammed British Prime Minister Tony Blair for his support of President George W. Bush's hardline stance on Iraq. The U2 star conceded that Blair was acting out of moral conviction but insists the leader is gravely wrong. Speaking Friday after receiving the insignia of a Knight of the Legion of Honor in Paris from French President Jacques Chirac, Bono says, "In my opinion Tony Blair is a great politician. His convictions about Iraq are sincere, but for me he is sincerely wrong." Bono added that it would be a mistake to make a martyr of Saddam Hussein through the use of force: "He's good at propaganda. Let's not make it easier for him."

Clinton: Bono Succeeded Where I Failed
AP ^ | February 23, 2003

Posted on 02/23/2003 4:54:22 PM PST by Indy Pendance

NEW YORK - Bill Clinton thinks Bono is a leader "we should follow in the new millennium."

The former president praised the lead singer of U2 Friday at a celebrity-packed reception honoring Bono's charitable work, most notably his efforts at promoting awareness of the AIDS (news - web sites) epidemic and famine in Africa.

Clinton credited the rock star with helping close partisan gaps and getting Congress to pass a bill to provide debt relief for Africa.

"He did something I couldn't do: He convinced Jesse Helms (former Republican senator from North Carolina) to be for it," Clinton said, adding: "I love this man because he has a mind and a heart."

In accepting the award from the recording industry charity MusiCares, Bono talked about possible U.S. military action against Iraq.

"We do not need to make a martyr out of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)," said Bono, a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize last year. "It is not as simple as war or no war. These are complex problems, and we need complex solutions."

Besides Clinton, others feting Bono were New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, singer David Bowie (news) and actor Robert De Niro (news).

Gwen Stefani (news), Mary J. Blige, B.B. King, Jimmy Fallon (news) and Wynonna Judd (news) were among those performing at the event.

Clinton takes the Bono tour of Dublin...

It was a wild night on the town on Wednesday when U2 frontman Bono took Bill Clinton on a walk of Dublin.

The former US president attended a late night party in U2's Dublin hotel, The Clarence. Bill partied the night away with Bono and the rest of U2 before taking a midnight stroll with the singer.

Clinton was in Ireland this week for a number of engagements.

Last night he held court in the Four Seasons hotel where he hosted a press conference alongside the Pulitzer Prize winner Frank McCourt for the Academy of Achievement.

The Academy was founded to pass on knowledge to younger leaders from those in society who have made it up the political ladder.

My God, the FCC needs to spend their time doing serious things instead of fining people for saying "fuck."

For fuck's sake, fuck is used in everyday language by millions of people.

18. So it should be ALL PORN ALL THE TIME...I don't even have children.....
.....but there is a time and place for that sort of shit and IMHO it shouldn't be allowed to be talked about all over the airwaves all the time...I already know I'm in the minority on this issue so spare me the flames but I honestly don't think sexually explicit talk radio should be MAINSTREAM...and no arguement is gonna make me change my mind either...sorry! :(

Edited on Fri Mar-19-04 06:43 PM by jus_the_facts
....means much more than just political ideology....this is one of many reasons ALL Democratic ideas are bein' HATED by the right...mainly the CHRISTIAN right and basically THE reason the religious have gotten sooooo interested in politics...and why our country is so divided and so many refuse to even take part in the process at all....and why the country has basically been taken over by the theocrats already....they GIVE US THE ROPE TO HANG OURSELVES...EVERY SINGLE TIME....why else would RUSH even HAVE an audience...refusing to see the big picture and not accepting ALL OF THE EQUASION...history will continue to repeat!

on edit.....it's self-righteousness indignation all the way around...hypocracy seems to know NO bounds...and it's the ever eternal paradox presenting itself once again....such is life! :eyes:

33. Well there are a lot of immature people. . .
. . .who don't understand politics. Bono can criticize Bush every day of the week for years and then say somthing like he is glad Bush is paying attention to AIDS and then all of a sudden he is a Bushie. We have a lot of people who have a lot to learn.
