Powell Reassures India on Technology Jobs - NY Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/17/international/asia/17POWE.html

"NEW DELHI, March 16 — Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, encountering the other side of a tempestuous debate in the United States, sought to assure Indians on Tuesday that the Bush administration would not try to halt the outsourcing of high-technology jobs to their country."

1. Unfrickenbelievable!
I little bit too little, a hell of a lot too late. These are good jobs being taken away from Americans who have studied long and hard for their specialty. Cheap labor. Cheap labor. Cheap labor. UnAmerican. UnAmerican. UnAmerican.

This has all been a ploy to fatten the pockets of rich Americans at the expense of their own country.

It's way too late to attempt making or enticing them to open up to our markets and services.

I think Dennis Kucinich is right; we have to pull out of WTO and NAFTA and renegotiate from a stronger position, which means regime change at home.

To this end, we must keep hammering JFK on his plans to extricate us from this mess.

4. Carlyle in India in 2000
Carlyle Group to invest $250 mln in Indian tech firms
17 August 2000, Reuters

NEW DELHI: Global private equity investor The Carlyle Group unveiled plans on Thursday to invest $250 million in India over the next three years, saying it had already invested $20 million of that amount in six Indian companies viz. software firm Convergent Software, education solutions company Educomp Datamatics, e-commerce portal ITNation.com, medical imaging technologies firm Manmar Technologies, web-based recruitment portal Placements.com and Ritechoice Technologies, a financial markets software solutions provider.

The Carlyle Group, which has more than $10 billion under management, has invested about $600 million in Asia so far. The Technology Fund would now focus on suitable investments in India, China, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Oh, and one of the first things Bush did after 9/11 was lift sanctions on India which really opened the flood gates.

11. Why should this suprise anyone? Carlye and Halliburton are not American
corporations. They are multi-nationals. The sooner we cut them loose the better off our country will be.

5. This makes me so friggen MAD!

I generally have kept my feelings to myself in the presence of my republican voting family to keep the piece. Now, I have sent a copy of this NY Times article to them. I get so sick of visiting my sister with her FOXNEWS blaring away and my mother listing to O'Reilly AND FOXNEWS every day.

This is what I sent. Maybe my family will never speak to me again. I'm tired of keeping quiet while some members trash Clinton and Hillary on a regular basis.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to think Colin Powell was a pretty decent man. Now he is my enemy. Along with
the other Bush crew. They say their going to "retrain" techies. If all computer related and engineering
jobs, which is the stuff I am made of is going to disappear out of this county, what the hell is the Bush administration
going to retrain us in?

My advice to anyone who has kids. Don't let them take anything in college that can be done remotely by computer.
I don't care if all the computer curriculums in the college shut down completely and all the tech book and magazine
drop to zero. I canceled my last computer magazine and sent a note back to them asking them why I would need
their magazine? Go sell it overseas for 10 cents an issue. I also mothballed all my computer books. What do I
need them for? My career is over.

ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ON THE COMPUTER CAN EVENTUALLY BE OUTSOURCED!

I even read about a device that helps someone in another country teach piano! It would be a cold day in hell before
I hire someone to teach me piano, who is not a human in my presence.

The Bush administration fails to recognize the magnitude and consequences of this practice, especially at the
breakneck pace at which it is being done. It's like blowing a big hole in the ship rather than adding some regulations
that would allow people to adjust.

I will pull no punches. I am MAD AS HELL AT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION!!

I tried another thing. I thought I would do some photo restoration and retouching work.

When I went to my usual photo store, he told me he was getting things like that done for $8.00/hour. Nobody doing
that kind of work in the US would do it for $8/hour. You can scan a photo, e-mail it to some sweatshop anywhere
in the world and pay peanuts for it. Then charge your customers the same as if it had been done in the US.

6. I'm so MAD
Outsourcing is the reason why I can't find a job in my field anymore, period. Now I don't know why I wasted years learning the skills I have.
Let's outsource Powell's job!

7. It just gets more amazing every day
I am almost flabbergasted of how much of a fool this man is.

The trick though is that almost is only good for horseshoes and hand grenades.

The accent and the direction the cabal is headed, they all just might need to resign before we all get to the GE :kick:

9. Hey. It's free and fair trade. They get our jobs and we get ...
... a huge trade deficit.

We buy and buy from them, but they don't buy from us. How is that free trade?

as a campaign commercial and the Bush Administration is history.
