Another reason to hate oil companies.
Unocal was working a crew in Nikiski, near where I live here in Alaska and crews always take a rifle for bears. This crew had a
rifleman with them. A sow was disturbed and came out of her den
making for the crew. The rifleman shot at her before she mauled
him a new one and then ran off.

Fish and Game had to come and track her and found her wounded.
They had to shoot her. The newsman tonight on telly told us
that her two newborn cubbies weren't found. Given that they are
so completely helpless and that they need her for warmth, know
that two tiny bear cubs died tonight for Peak Oil.

2. I would rather
I would rather that they used non-lethal means. After all, we are invading their habitat.

Is the world so simple that you can't see alternatives? Do you really hear about something like this and think that someone or something had to die?

3. I would like non-lethal means,
however, I see very little wrong with shooting a charging bear. And I'm not sure there is a foolproof non-lethal weapon that can reliably be used on bears, given the wide range in sizes, as well as the inability to carry a loaded tranq gun around all the time like you can a loaded rifle.

4. Grizzlies come into my town all the time. Don't go near them. I hate that
no place is their place. I don't care if they get mauled
right now. They make a choice to work there. Tomorrow I
might feel different but not now. I'm too pissed off. Bear
cubs like this are about the size of a puppy. Think of two
of them dying in agony tonight for oil greed.

5. Apparently
Lethal weapons aren't reliable either, since the rifle didn't stop the bear.
