If I am to be a true DUer - I must ask this: why did people suffer in 2000
at the Democratic Convention?

I've seen the media hype. Yet I've also heard from people that I respect that our party is almost as vicious as the opposition.
I'm not trying to start a firestoem, I just want to understand. if I'm going to pledge allegiance to a Party I want to understand why kids, who were just like I was on Feb 15th when I protested the war in Iraq got brutalized by the police?

This is a genuine ethical question. Please help me with this. No malice to our party intended.

1. The police report to the mayor, not the party holding the convention.
We saw police misconduct on Feb. 15 too. This is how law enforcement deal with protests and gatherings, they break them up and they intimidate, and they rough up people.

2. So, and please don't assume this is sarcasm, did we deserve it?
I mean if Clinton (my favorite President) was talking about freedom and self expression while people were being kicked in the crotch and tear gassed and rubber bulleted, what's really going on? I need help here? I love this Party but the things I've seen lately are making me doubt the one party that is keeping me from fleeing this country!

4. DId you read my post?
Bill Clinton didnt order the cops to tear gas anyone.

Our society is so far from perfect its sometimes horrible to think about, but the way cities police forces handle large crowds of demonstrators is NOT the work of the democratic party or Bill Clinton.

3. I believe
we should be true ideals regardless of the party. The death of the republican party began when they started to put the "R" above the beliefs. They were once known as the party of Lincoln and today they are the party of NASCAR.
The strange thing is that the republicans have become the most diverse political party in the history of the United States. It doesn't matter if you are a racist, convicted felon, drug addict, murderer, wife beater, rapist, lier, inbred, sexist, gay, trans-gender,etc.. just as long as you vote for the "R" your OK.
