Daily U.S. Casualties 3/14/2004

As of Saturday, 560 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the military.

Of those, 381 died as a result of hostile action and 179 died of nonhostile causes, officials reported.

Since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 422 U.S. soldiers have died -- 266 as a result of hostile action and 156 of nonhostile causes, according to the military.

Since the start of military operations, 2,791 U.S. service members have been injured as a result of hostile action, according to figures provided by the military Saturday. Nonhostile injured numbered 424.

The latest deaths reported by U.S. Central Command:


Two U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb Saturday in Tikrit.


The latest identifications reported by family members:


Army Staff Sgt.

Joe L. Dunigan Jr., 37, Belton, Texas; killed Thursday when his vehicle was hit by an explosive in Fallujah; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.


Army Spc. Christopher K. Hill, 26, Ventura, Calif., killed Thursday, when his vehicle was hit by an explosive in Fallujah; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley.
