Is Kerry really proposing a $900 billion tax increase?
As the bu$h ads claim? What would that increase cover?
If so,who will pay the brunt of that?

1. No!
Kerry has come out with an ad rebutting Bush's '$900 billion' accusation. Look somewhere in GD:2004, probably, for a description.

2. in politics that's what they call "a lie"
http://blog.johnkerry.com/dbunker/

of course, to point that out would be "conduct unbecoming of a presidential candidate."

4. No they got that figure from a study on his healthcare proposals
I can't remember which school did it. That figure is the estimated cost over 10 years the Repubs *GASP* twisted the information and made it sound like it would be in the first 100 days.

5. Who cares?
Why should I care about this until I know how much the budget actually is and how it's distributed? They leave that part out.

6. He wants to undo the Bush gift to the wealthiest
Americans. Which is a perfectly sensible, level-headed thing to do, considering that those tax cuts have been one of the primary factors behind the destruction of our economy.

7. No ... hell no
He will propose a rollback in the Bush tax cuts sure.

But raising taxes like that is just like cutting your own political throat and bleeding for the amusement of the opposition.

Over ten years, the Kerry health plan if it ever went through which it will not cost $900 billion dollars.

That sounds amazing but only if you ignore the fact the man wants to raise taxes on the richest americans and plan for zero growth and also forget that $250 billion dollars back into the coffers of America would only expand in an environment of economic growth.

He wants to actually increase tax cuts for the middle class.

But none of this matters a great deal in a Republican controlled congress that will refuse to back off any of the tax cuts for their rich buddies.

There is a disparity between his numbers in terms of hikes versus cuts in taxes versus how much the healthcare plan would cost.

Those have to be resolved or if he is being completely political realizing that a health care plan can never pass maybe he does not have to bother.

There is only so much one man can do in a government of wingnuts.

Once we get the white house we have to all seriously consider a real strategy for the House and the Senate.

8. Why would you take Bush's claims at face value?
You know a claim about an opponent is distorted.

You know a number Bush throws out is cooked.

Go to www.dailykos.com to see their analysis of how the Bush team created this number (their guess on a shortfall coming out of Kerry's proposals) and how a similar analysis of the shortfalls in Bush's proposals creates an even bigger wacky number.

They're using the total cost of his TEN YEAR PLAN to come up with that little gem.

Lying liars, indeed.

13. In a way, yes...
The Bush team charges that Kerry's healthcare plan will cost 900 billion $$ over ten years, and Kerry is not disputing this...so they are assuming he will pay for it by raising taxes...which I really wouldn't mind at all.
