Al Franken, Liberal radio to start March 31st
Progressive Media dba Air America says it will roll out on stations in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco on March 31st.

The story.

The only thing that concerns me is Franken is calling his show The O'Franken Factor, obviously a sarcastic nod to Bill O'Reilly. But I think this joke could easily backfire. What if O'Reilly's show goes off the air? Then the joke is over and you're stuck with the name. Why confirm O'Reilly's significance by naming your show after him? Why not let him name his show after you?

But other than that, Franken, Garofalo and Chuck D on one station? WOO-HOO!

2. This is going to rule!
I love tha Garafolo's show is going to be called The Majority Report. Maybe Stern will skip over to Air America, that would be pretty cool.

8. I'm still upset that there's no Malloy show
He's the best Liberal talk radio host ever. It's a mystery that they didn't offer him a prime time show (yet). Any guesses why?

10. I agree
I started listening to Malloy like a month before he went off the air...I think that many stations are afraid to air him because he speaks the truth too much and he is a bit of a loose cannon...with that said, he's still the best and I'm sure they will come around once this station gets its feet on the ground

32. I think Malloy would be better
I like Franken, but it's going to be interesting to see how he does on radio. Personally, I like Malloy's style better than Franken's.

22. Ok, here's why they won't pick up Malloy.... my thoughts
From everything I've read the whole idea of this statio is too mimic the Daily Show and all of the successful liberal books on the market today. What do I mean? Sarcastic humor. Lots of it.

I tend to agree, liberal programming only works when you're laughing out loud at how stupid the Republicans are. Malloy is all about yelling and anger, which serves a purpose, but will probably be passed over for lighter fare by the majority of radio listeners.

26. only thing is
they picked up Randi Rhodes...
and she isn't about sarcasm either. She's plenty angry... though there is some humor involved in her show.

he would be PERFECT for the late shift.

if you can't be real and edgy it probably won't work, imo.

mike malloy is an actual radio talkshow host, how many do they got so far? 1?

11. I did searches for the stations they'll be on
WLIB in NYC is a Carribean station

WNTD in Chicago is a Spanish language station

KBLA in LA is Korean station

These stations have been bought out so they'll now be part of Air America, but I wonder what the current owners of thse stations will do.

To: Pikamax
Air America Radio will debut its programming on radio stations WLIB (AM 1190am) in New York
This will replace programming that has been aimed at a mostly black and latino audience for many years. Are they really going to tune in to Al O'Franken's idiocy? Can you imagine the screams from the minority community in New York once they realize that they've been sold out for white liberal dollars...

18. They'll Freep any new liberal entity
They invaded DU when it was launched three years ago. That caused the admins to ban conservatives, because they were staging organized attacks (along with a bunch of other forums) on DU.

I can get both Denver and Colorado Springs stations from my house. And I seriously doubt any stations in the Springs (a real cesspool of conservatism) will sign up for this.

24. I don't know about the other stations, but WLIB
Barely gets out of the five boroughs of NYC. Granted that is 8 million people, but half the time I can't tune 1190 in on my car radio in suburban NJ. Would have liked them to purchase WOR or some station with some reach. Even better, an FM.

That being said, I can't cough up the $300 million it would cost to buy a station like that, it's a little tight considering gas prices these days. I'm thankful there is any "liberal voice".

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=Wlib&is_unl=Y&is_lic=Y&is_cp=Y&sr=Y&s=C

Check out this link to find out if 1190 can reach your area.

Comedian hopes "O'Franken Factor" annoys FNC's O'Reilly

New York Times (reg. req.)
Liberal talk radio network Air America Radio debuts on March 31 on low-rated stations in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Al Franken hopes his "The O'Franken Factor'' show on AAR will "annoy and bait'' Bill O'Reilly. A Fox News spokesman says: "One of this country's founding principles is the right to free speech. We wish them well.''
