7 million raised since super Tuesday, From Kerry's desk
It's time for Democrats to unite so that together, we can change America.

Everywhere I've been in this campaign, I've been amazed at the levels of enthusiasm and energy from Democrats all across America who are ready for change in November. With their help and yours, this campaign is shaping up as the most determined, spirited, and far-reaching fight for our future that our Party has ever waged.

We're more united than we have ever been. We know how much hardship George W. Bush's trail of broken promises has left in its wake -- and we know how many people are counting on us to give America back its future and its hope. This nation is demanding leadership that takes us in a new direction. And George W. Bush has made it clear that he's not going to provide it. With your help, we will.

This week, I will be reaching out to all Democrats who have been campaigning hard to change America, including my former primary rivals. I urge you to reach out as well -- because only a united Democratic Party can meet the challenges that lie ahead.

I'll also be spending time with Tom Daschle, Nancy Pelosi, and my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate. No group of Democrats knows more clearly how important it is to end the Bush presidency and lead America in a new direction.

Together, we're going to show George W. Bush what a united and determined Democratic Party can do.

We're off to a fantastic start. In the week since Super Tuesday, our campaign has raised over $7 million from tens of thousands of supporters. And we're seeing excitement and enthusiasm that you don't usually see until right before November. But George W. Bush and the Republicans haven't seen anything yet. We're just getting warmed up.

3. Kerry wants my money he'll give back theirs
From The NY Times:

Many Major Kerry Donors Actually Give More to Bush
By GLEN JUSTICE

Published: March 10, 2004

Senator John Kerry is beginning his drive to compete financially against President Bush with a disadvantage: almost half of his campaign's largest sources of money have given more money to Mr. Bush, according to a new study.

Through January, 9 of Mr. Kerry's top 20 donors in the presidential race favored the incumbent Republican over the presumptive Democratic nominee, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

For example, employees at Citigroup Inc., the financial services giant, are Mr. Kerry's third-largest source of money, at more than $79,000. Yet company employees gave Mr. Bush more than twice that, $187,500, in the same period.

I do want to see the shrub pulled out by the roots, but Kerry has a bad habit I'd really like to see him drop it.

5. Here we go again...
Kerry is accepting donations from people who WORK for citigroup, not citigroup itself. These might be secretaries, janitors, whatever. People at my company have donated to Bush, I have donated to Kerry. This article is utterly meaningless.

7. Now I reread it
and it does seem a little meaningless, but not entirely. I mean there is certainly some expectation of payback from a corp like citigroup, isn't there?

Here's a list of top donors - looks like much of the citigroup money may have come from a single contributer:

8. Look more closely

Those are individuals who have raised $X. Also these are 4 year totals, include that individual's immediate family (so if you, your son, 2 daughters and wife each donated $2,000 the number would be $10,000) and if you also donated $20,000 to the DNC that number would be counted even though it wasn't a direct contribution to Kerry himself. Additionally, just because someone is wealthy does not make them evil. A very good friend of mine is a multi-millionaire (and i mean MULTI) and he donated $2000 to Dean, Kucinich and Kerry and makes massive contributions to the DNC all the time and he is a VERY good man (his charitable contributions far outweigh his personal expenditures, including Planned Parenthood, AIDS Action Committee, among other things).

That means people who have hosted fundraisers and who work for Citigroup. Again, I was personally thinking about doing a house party and raising some funds. Citicorp doesn't necessarily have anything whatsoever to do with this as a company. When corporations are doing things like funding issue ads and contributing huge $$$ to the DNC/RNC or to PACs then you need to wonder about the favors they are getting in return.

I will be donating the full $2000 to Kerry's campaign this year but I certainly don't expect the company I work for to get any favorable treatment as a result. I hope to raise $100,000 for Kerry over the coming months as well but again I also don't expect political favors.

These things are misleading. Ralph Nader loves to use them as a way to portray dems=repubs but this doesnt really tell the whole story.

6. Hello Peachy!!! - Why should you be mad if people gave money to Kerry?
I don't work for Citicorp, but when I gave money to JK I had to say who I worked for. That is how they count it, and how they are counting it here. It doesn't mean that my company gave the money. I guarentee you it came out of my pocket!

So why should we get upset if somebody who works at citicorp gave money to Kerry? They are people too, and they can contribute if they want to.

THanks and WELCOME TO DU!!!!!!!
