They had even changed their registration to Dem and voted today. They're totally disgusted with Bush. Two of the people used to even be on the Republican Exec. Committee until Bush came along.

I also know another life-long Repub. who says he and his wife might also be voting for Kerry.

At the community pool at my place we are ripping up Bush on a regular basis. btw, Naples is one of the most Republican areas in the country....

Let's hope this sentiment is representative of the rest of Florida.

1. Good news.
We need every vote we can get in Florida. Not only that, but we need them counted.

3. Yup
Normally, I'd say you can't argue by example, but everyone is having the same experience. I personally know three people who voted for * in 2000 who won't do it again. One thinks it's a disgrace if he even runs. And there are probably more people in my acquaintance who won't even admit that they voted for him before.

Of course, I'm in CA. It's sure nice to hear this coming from Florida, too.

13. I know two people who voted for bush*
both for Gov. and in 2000, who won't be voting for him in '04. They are so disgusted with him, changed their voter registration to Dem.

5. I know at least that many
Two vets, one cop, a couple who own a heavy-equipment company...all sorts of people. One friend of mine, 45, has never voted dem. Family always voted gop; he and his wife both voting dem this year.

Lots of people.

The 50% approval figure is a LIE. Bush's real approval ratings can't be much above 35%.

10. 50% approval a lie?
I've seen several other DUers make this claim. What is the basis for saying it's a lie? Aren't there numerous polls from many different sources that say about the same thing withing the margin of error? That can't all be cooked like the Faux polls.

I don't think approval rating is a good indicator of voter backing. Many people approve of the job someone is doing, but will vote for someone who they hope will do even better. IE, their approval isn't very enthusiastic. Maybe that's what you are sensing.

Bush will get at minimum 40% of the vote--that's his fundie/wingnut base. So, 50% approval (+/- 3%) doesn't seem out of line to me.

6. There seems to be an anti-Bush sentiment in at least some parts of Ohio.
Several people I know from all parts of Ohio have told me that their voting precinct--many of which are heavy Republican--experienced a sharp spike in voters registering as Democrats. They attribute it to their dissatisfaction with the way Bush is handling domestic and foreign affairs.

Has this trend taken place in other states which have had primaries? Let me know.

7. Here in North Dallas
I detect no such movement. I do detect definite lack of confidence that shrub will be reelected, but the support is still there. If there are any people who've changed their mind (I suspect there are some but couldn't prove this) they probably wouldn't feel particularly free to speak of this in the environment I work in.

being voiced recently. In public I invariably make a disparaging remark about Smirk and get a lot of enthusiastic approval. The worst I may experience is a Hmmmph or avoidance;no rabid support.
People I work with have told me they voted for Bush but would never do it again.I've personally converted several.
Smirk's going to lose big.

8. Of course, being in a corporate big money part of Texas,
this is absolutely the last place I'd expect to see the erosion of shrub support. Like the guy at the end of Jaws on the top of the Orca's mast while the rest of the thing was underwater.

Thats an affluent part of Florida, that means the wealthy are not happy with shrubs policies!
