GOP infomercial on Hot Sex (tort reform) made me mad enough to call!
Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 02:48 PM by Liberal_Andy
Did I say Hot Sex? I meant to say Tort Reform, but that doesn't get near as many hits. Just watched a half-hour infomercial on medical malpractice reform, ran on 2 local stations, it appears to be news type interviews with "concerned doctors" leaving practice due to high cost of malpractice insurance. Mentions "run-away jury awards" without offering any evidence (because there is none).

It gives an 800 # to call and voice support for a petition in favor of caps on jury awards...800 893 8080. It says tell Sen. John Edwards to support Sen. Dole's plan for caps. You call that number and they have no idea why you're calling, you have to TELL THEM!

The people behind this are www.protectpatientsnow.org

I called my local stations and raised cain, told them I didn't EVER want to hear about the liberal media again. There should have been a continious scroll saying it was "paid political", and oposing viewpoiints should be offered.

I told them I had a study showing malpractice payouts over the past 30 years tracked the rate of medical inflation, while malpractice insurance premuims followded the ups and downs of the stock market. Yes, premiums have gone up, not because of "run-away jury awards" but bad investments by the insurance industry.

2. I've seen an infomercial on gun control
featuring a group of terrified sitting duck Australians whose guns were taken away by the law. Why couldn't Kerry do one, because it would directly influence a Federal election?

3. I've seen similar ads here in Washington state
They actually run every week, often on Saturday and Sunday mornings. They are well produced and make it seem like doctors are fleeing the state in droves...however, this claim was shown as false by the local paper...this mis-information campaign must be stopped.
