Poll question: Saudi Royal Family
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 10:29 PM by JohnLocke
- 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis.
- The Saudi royal family supports terrorism though finacial channels, support in the state-run terrorism, and "looking the other way."
- 20% of U.S. crude oil imports (i.e., we're beholden to them for oil).

1. ewww... James Woolsey and Dore Gold. Gag.
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 10:06 PM by thebigidea
when you wanna sell your book to DU's audience, one way to do it is put a James Woolsey blurb on the cover.

Man, we LOVE James Woolsey here.

Lets hear it for James Woolsey!

Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 10:12 PM by thebigidea
He was on tv warmongering on a daily basis in the leadup to Iraq - lying his ass off about WMD, utterly reprehensible.

What other broken clocks do you consider accurate?

Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 10:13 PM by thebigidea
pure propaganda!

I'm no fan of the Saudi Royal Family, but I don't look to Right Wing spinmeisters and apparatchiks like Gold and Woolsey for my facts.

10. I don't believe a word out of that lying snake Woolsey's mouth
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 10:17 PM by thebigidea
nor would I believe anything coming from an Ariel Sharon mouthpiece like Dore Gold. Ugh.

Why don't you post rave reviews about Richard Perle's performance on CSPAN today - he had a hardon about Saudi Arabia too.

Sure, he's a scumbug - but he's right about Saudia Arabia, so he's a GOOD scumbag! Is that it?

Posner elaborates in startling detail how U.S. interrogators used drugs - an unnamed "quick-on, quick-off" painkiller and Sodium Pentothal, the old movie truth serum - in a chemical version of reward and punishment to make Zubaydah talk. When questioning stalled, according to Posner, CIA men flew Zubaydah to an Afghan complex fitted out as a fake Saudi jail chamber, where "two Arab-Americans, now with Special Forces," pretending to be Saudi inquisitors, used drugs and threats to scare him into more confessions.
Yet when Zubaydah was confronted by the false Saudis, writes Posner, "his reaction was not fear, but utter relief." Happy to see them, he reeled off telephone numbers for a senior member of the royal family who would, said Zubaydah, "tell you what to do."The man at the other end would be Prince Ahmed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, a Westernized nephew of King Fahd and a publisher better known as a racehorse owner. His horse War Emblem won the Kentucky Derby in 2002). To the amazement of the U.S., the numbers proved valid. When the fake inquisitors accused Zubaydah of lying, he responded with a 10-minute monologue laying out the Saudi-Pakistani-Osama triangle, according to the book.
Zubaydah, writes Posner, said the Saudi connection ran through Prince Turki al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, the kingdom’s longtime intelligence chief. Zubaydah said bin Laden "personally" told him of a 1991 meeting at which Turki agreed to let bin Laden leave Saudi Arabia and to provide him with secret funds as long as al-Qaeda refrained from promoting jihad in the kingdom.

I'm no fan of the Saudis.

But I'm even LESS of a fan of Woolsey and Gold.

What other topics do you agree with them on?

If the TIME article sourced James Woolsey for that story, I'd have the same harangue. He's a fucking liar.

The number is more like 7% of US imports, by the way. We get far more from Venezuela than the Saudis.
