Peter, Paul and Mary have new songs coming out.
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 08:55 PM by Florida_Geek
I have not seen this talked about on here.

I watched Peter, Paul & Mary: "Carry It On: A Musical Legacy" on PBS tonight. They will be coming out in 2004 with a new album of songs dealing with current issues. One "Jesus on a Wire" is about the killing of a gay male a couple years ago.

If you have a chance to watch it do. The anti-war protests from the 60s are so true today.

2. They have a lot of good new songs.
We go to see them every year. They are very fun to see in a small hall.
And they are fired up for this election year.

3. While this was a PBS fund drive and they did not want to
piss out people, from what was said they are fired up against the War in Iraq.

6. they have beautiful voices
no need for screeching in the background - im just sad to how mary has aged - she was such a lovely young woman. Oh well, perhaps im feeling sorry that im growing old.

8. We're all aging. She hasn't done that badly
Saw them in November at Arlo's post-Thanksgiving Carnegie Hall show. They were doing great and still kicking conservative butt.

9. Remember the old Hootenanny circuit from the early 60s?
They toured college campuses and put on free concerts with other folk groups. I think it was at Auburn (AL) where I first heard them live around 1963. I went to others back in that era, but sadly the Hootenanny phase was short lived. The same groups resurfaced again during the anti-war demonstrations in the late 1960s. If I remember correctly, didn't Peter, Paul, & Mary perform in front of the Washington Monument during the Spring 1971 demonstration? There were so many there that day I simply cannot remember them all.

The times I heard them, along with others like Pete Seeger, were always free concerts. I doubt any of the folk artists from that era have much in the way financial assets.

If you want to hear some fabulous sound on your stereo, check out some of their recordings from the 1960s on Warner Brothers. The "Peter, Paul, & Mary In Concert" is a good place to start. Gives you an idea what attending a Hootenanny was like back then. Also, give a listen to The Weavers Reunion At Carnegie Hall, 1963. Great stuff!
