So Bush AWOL...
I never really followed this story -- I couldn't care less about it. But I have an extremely ignorant friend who believes the media have a liberal bias simply because they aired this story. He thinks it was completely baseless and the WH releasing the papers proves it. Again, I really haven't followed this at all. Looking for some solid info on this shit. Remember: He's an extremely ignorant Republican, so if Bush was not AWOL...in his mind this proves the media are liberal.

1. He himself proved he was AWOL
The papers the WH released proved he was AWOL for at least 5 months. The whole thing blew up in their face.

And they still haven't been able to come up with anyone that remembers seeing him in Alabama during that time frame.

3. True story of no records of Bush attending Guard meetings for 5 months
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 08:54 PM by papau
at least - and more likely thrice that - all without permission - hence AWOL (desertion depends on intent to come back - but is presumed - but that is for another Court!)

He was denied permission to go to ALabama to postal unit in May, but he still left his orginal unit, and there is an order dated in Sept that sends him to AL - but no one ever saw him there.

A fellow says he saw him in his office - but no one saw him at drill and thereis no sign in sheet. Officially he was paid for 9 appearances - the minimum to qualified for the discharge - but without permission slips in the record to miss all the other duty - he was AWOL.

Oh yeah - he did stop by the AL base to get his teeth x-rayed.

Oh year, he did "community service for an unknown crime(?) in that winter/spring.

Oh yeah, the annual medical began radom drug testing that spring - and he chose to disobey a standing order for pilots to take a physical that spring, and was removed from flight status because of it - so his book (auto-bio) issued pre campaign 2000 has lies about lies by Bush about flying in the Guard after that point.

Hmmmm.... does that make Bush a liar .... does it affect his credibility with the media?

or with you friend

4. What about the "missing records"
Since 1994, when Dim Sonny ran for governor of Texas, his air national guard records were somehow mysteriously missing. He said as much during his Russert interview. He said they'd been trying to locate his service records for a long time, but they were missing and nobody knew where they were. They were supposed to be on file somewhere in Colorado, "But shucks." he said, "They ain't."

And then, all of a sudden, five days after he claimed nobody knew where the records were, POOF!!!!! The "records" were found, and copied, and dumped on the press at 6:30 on a Friday evening.

But you know what has NEVER been explained in any way shape or fashion? Why he never took that physical. That's the explanation I want to hear. They tried saying it was because his personal doctor was in Houston, but that's a load of crap. Since when do personal doctors get involved in military matters?

Do you know what Dim Sonny said during his first debate with Ann Richards in 1994, when asked why he had chosen not to go to Vietnam, but rather to fly around Texas in the ANG? He said, "I think I was in just as much danger flying around over west Texas as anyone was flying around over Vietnam."

I swear to whatever you find holy, that's what he said. He was never called on it then or since. In fact, I can't even locate a transcript of that debate. It's probably locked up at Poopy's Prez'nentshul Liberry at A&M. But that's what he said, alright. What a dip shit.

Hope this helps.
