The Liberal/Progressive enclave concept
Many here are fed up with the DLC and I understand their frustration. I think supporting groups that fight corporate power such as www.reclaimdemocracy.org is a more productive alternative for alienated Progressives than third parties. To be realistic, what did it take to get real progressive change such as Social security and the FDIC? The Great Depression. Years of Populist third party and Labor revolts had a minimal effect compared to the Depression. It takes that much to wake up apathetic America. The Party is still reformable, IMO, but at this point only on a local level, which is where this idea I copied from "Bubba Free Bubba" on talkpolitics.com comes from:
"The conservatives say their is a culture war and I agree with them. The conservatives of the Republican Party are the vanguard of the Norm (neocon)culture.
Norm culture is typlified by a desire for non-diversity of lifestyles and an orientation to the sustaining of a shadow aristocrat class, a monied few that hold the power and influence totally to themselves. The shadow aristocrat class are served by the Con SS ervative faction of the Republican part, who in turn keep the Con SS ervative faction in power.
Con SS ervativism is anathema to diversity, anathema to the development of a truly free and truly secular state. They are an impediment to the eventual creation of a World Government.
World Government will be the eventual outcome of the increasingly secular and diverse viewpoint now championed by Liberalism. It will lead to greater participation and a fairer distribution of funds and world resources. The present ultra-nationalism by the Con SS ervative chickenhawks is but a small regresssion into the ineviable internationalization and formation of a One World Government.
Liberals should seek to build enclaves where their philosophy of freedom, diversity and liberty can be practiced. A concentration will push out the Con SS ervative barbarians and their shadow aristocrat class puppet politicians. Liberals should seek to gain influence over the schools, improve sex education, teach diversity from kindergarten up so that students can be freed from the mind-virus of Con SS ervativism.
Modern morality based on the Rights of Men should be taught to the students. In addition, aggressive defunding of religious fanatic groups that try to reintroduce Norm oppression into the schools should be taken.
The key is for Liberals to work together in a systematic attempt to pacify and drive out the Norm oppressors. The hope is to isolate them into small enclaves as a backward and rouge culture, and allow them to continue their ignorance in their own small enclaves."

The Constitution prevents or discourages large-scale change against the status quo, but communities are bucking the tide and declaring the Patriot Act null and void, keeping wal-Mart out, and even revoking corporate power. The South should be left to descend back into the 16th century they so ardently desire.
