Bush never flip flops! He says what he means, and DOES IT.
Arghhh - I'm hearing this a lot from our right-wing "friends." Obviously, we know this is absolutely untrue. The problem I'm having (and I'd like to refute these idiots) is finding a comprehensive list online that shows all of the things GW gave lip service to, without following through on.

The statement below is exactly what I am trying to disassemble:

"I personally think the greatest thing Bush has going for him is that if he says he will do something, you know it will happen. Even if you don't agree with what he says, at least you know where he stands and that he will follow through--more than what you can say about most politicians......"

Any takers?

To do the opposite of what he says.

Help AIDS victims in Africa.
"Clean Skies" hahahahaha

"No Child Left Behind" muhahahaha

He has underfunded/misnamed every proposal he has put out there.

3. He ran as a "compassionate conservative", for Christ's sake.
This adminstration is the most radical administration in recent history. I'd argue that he flipped-flopped on his entire agenda.

6. Common Cause sent me a letter with info about the military
I'm sure it is on their web site, in a nutshell, shrub says he supports the military, keeps those serving in Iraq in the dark about how long they will be there, extends their tours of duty after telling them they are going home. Sends them into combat without flak vests, they have to pay for meals in hospital, long waits for the wounded to get rehab and anything but life-saving surgery, cutback hazardous duty pay, makes them pay for their own plane tickets from Germany or Washington DC to their homes.
I know I left things out, but this kind of "flip flop" is not about health care, or jobs...it's about the people he says are heroes and should be treated with respect.

Oh yeah, and he actually said he would not use 911 for political gain. I'm sure the link is out there.

Really now, coming up with Bush flip flops is like catching fish in a barrel. Bush Flip-Flops

Bush is against campaign finance reform; then he's for it.
Bush is against a Homeland Security Department; then he's for it.
Bush is against a 9/11 commission; then he's for it.
Bush is against an Iraq WMD investigation; then he's for it.
Bush is against nation building; then he's for it.
Bush is against deficits; then he's for them.
Bush is for free trade; then he's for tariffs on steel; then he's against them again.
Bush is against the U.S. taking a role in the Israeli Palestinian conflict; then he pushes for a "road map" and a Palestinian state.
Bush is for states right to decide on gay marrage, then he is for changing the constitution.
Bush first says he'll provide money for first responders (fire, police, emergency), then he doesn't.
Bush first says that 'help is on the way' to the military... then he cuts benefits
Bush-"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. Bush-"I don't know where he is. I have no idea and I really don't care.
Bush claims to be in favor of the environment and then secretely starts drilling on Padre Island. Bush talks about helping education and increases mandates while cutting funding.
Bush claims to be for women's rights and then nominates judges who have tried to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Bush first says the U.S. won't negotiate with North Korea. Now he will
Bush goes to Bob Jones University. Then say's he shouldnt have.
Bush said he would demand a U.N. Security Council vote on whether to sanction military action against Iraq. Later Bush announced he would not call for a vote
Bush said the "mission accomplished" banner was put up by the sailors. Bush later admits it was his advance team.
Bush was for fingerprinting and photographing Mexicans who enter the US. Bush after meeting with Pres. Fox, he's against it.

8. If that were even true, it's no merit badge...it's a symptom of a closed
mind. Or a very defective one. As we all know, one indication of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

“Trust me I’m a straight shooter”

1.Osama Bin Laden is my number one priority. (at least this week)
2. We need an Office of Strategic Influence (Next decade maybe)
3. I will follow the UN Resolution as long as it takes-10-27-02
10-31-02—The UN needs to act now
2-13-03—The UN needs to show courage (like I did during Vietnam.)
4. I am a strong believer in Fair Trade—(except steel and softwood lumber) (votes first)

Ed Crane—Co-Founder and President of The Cato Institute-“Everything this
administration does is political”

5, We do not need for the Homeland Security Department to be a Cabinet position.
I made up my mind on it. Boston Globe—6-9-02 “Bush Flip Flop”
6. I will get Osama Bin Laden “Dead or Alive”—(go get em cowboy)—5-13-02-(“I don’t know where he is, I have no idea and I really don’t care.) (It’s not that important. It’s not out first priority”) (“I say what I mean”). (“When I make up my mind it stays made up”).

15. “I am tired of all the Lying and Deception”—Amen! Hallelulah! Then stop it Boy.

25. Wash Posr-11-15-02—“If you are not happy with the administration’s policy toward Iraq at any given moment just wait a week or two. A new policy, more your liking, is bound to appear”.

31. “I am in excellent physical condition.” (Darn, staying up till midnight in Paris zapped all my energy—Boy—try conditioning your mind))

15. Some huge ones:
-Bush vs. Bush debate on the Daily Show (about a humble foreign policy and why it is wrong to engage in "nation building")

-Touting No Child Left Behind and then not funding it.

-Putting WTO-violating steel tariffs into place for a bunch of swing states for pure political gain, but then retracting them when the WTO (predictably) ruled them illegal and allowed the EU to put tariffs on other swing state products.

-Saying he would put $5 billion into the Global AIDS Fund and then only budgeting half that amount.

-Naming a policy "Clear Skies" that actually increases the amount of emissions that corporations can put into the air.

-"Mission Accomplished"

-Lied about not running a deficit.

16. His Excuse Is Always "9/11 Changed Everything"
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 05:24 PM by K8-EEE
Whenever they bring up nation building etc which he said he was against.

First of all I'm sick of that 9/11 Changed Everything bullshit -- why don't they just say the terrorists won then? Surely we will never forget 9/11 but why let them dictate how we will run our country and what freedoms are now suddenly "too dangerous" like free speech and assembly around GWB's appearances for instance.

Frankly IT IS A WASTE OF TIME TO ARGUE WITH PEOPLE LIKE THAT. Bush has the Ostriches all sewed up, they will excuse him any bungle and think he's fucking Jesus W. Christ. We need to be more aggressive with getting to the people who didn't vote last time, and clue them in on what will happen (draft wise etc.) if W gets elected.
