Daily U.S. Casualties 3/7/2004
Daily U.S. Casualties 3/7/2004

As of Friday, 550 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense. Of those, 379 died as a result of hostile action and 171 died of nonhostile causes, the department said. The department did not provide an update Saturday.

The British military has reported 58 deaths; Italy, 17; Spain, eight; Bulgaria, five; Thailand, two; Denmark, Ukraine, Estonia and Poland have reported one each.

Since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 412 U.S. soldiers have died -- 264 as a result of hostile action and 148 of nonhostile causes, according to the military.

Since the start of military operations, 2,743 U.S. service members have been injured as a result of hostile action, according to the Defense Department's figures as of Saturday. Nonhostile injured numbered 421. The latest casualties reported by the military:

Three U.S. soldiers were wounded Saturday in Habaniyah, west of Baghdad, when an apparent truck-bomb crashed and exploded.

Four British soldiers were wounded Friday during a firefight in Qalah Salih, southern Iraq.

There were no new identifications reported by the military.

1. There has been a media blackout for the last few weeks
we've not heard of any US casualties since Bush started campaigning against the Dems.

4. The tragedy is compounded by the fact that we don't even hear about the
casualties. IMHO, they are creating another Vietnam with the blackouts--pretty soon soldiers will feel that America doesn't care about their lives or sacrifices, and they will be right. What the media broadcasts determines what social issues people care about. All we are hearing from Iraq is that a constitution is being drawn up, and the omission of other news suggests that things are calming down.

2. Thank You For Posting This
I hope you post it each and every day. We need to be reminded every day that our service men and women are dying and being maimed and wounded for Bush's lies.

It's very sobering and I wonder why this isn't a campaign issue as yet. Bush's lies for war seem to have been forgotten. Thank you for making us remember.

3. Why Can't We Get Coverage Of The Injured???
Is there some breach of military security for an American news organization to take a camera into a military hospital so we can see the faces of those who are victims of this war.

I feel for the families of those who've lost loved ones in this illegal invasion, but feel 100 times more for those who will have to endure this war for years and decades to come...caring for those who have been disabled. All one hears is a token mention about a carbomb here or a crash there, but little more...yet these victims are the worst legacy of this war.

Medical science has advanced that we're able to save many who have met horrible accidents but also create a new class of victims in the process. Anyone who lives or knows a disabled veteran knows the endless struggle they have with their physical and mental injuries and the many ways they effect many lives.

There have been reports of a large number of amputees caused by bombs...and that our veterans hospitals...underfunded as they are...are filling up.

Anyone have more insight or links on this...and how others may help with money and or time? Thanks!
