It looks like I can't vote in 2004
Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 09:53 PM by daveskilt
Having lived here since 92 and been married to a US citizen for 6.5 years - I finally heard back from the good old dept of homeland security about my citizenship application.

"we are currently taking between 750 - 999 business days to process applications of this type. Please contact us if you have not heard from us by then"

So no voting until 08 for me I suppose. I will, however, continue to be able pay taxes and they did let me sign the draft (let me as in force).

6. the best part is
They want fingerprints...which means a day in line and 50 bucks. Those fingerprints "expire" after 11 months so I go back in to redo them every 11 months and pay another 50 bucks and wait in line another day. If i dont I get to start over with the application. Also the citizenship test is too easy "what colors are on the flag?" they should beef that bad boy up a bit.

12. I hope immigrants aren't color-blind...
Who comes up with these tests anyway? "What colors are on the flag" is ridiculous, to say the least... Surely naming the 16th is a tad more important?

And $50 every 11 months? Waiting 750 days? You're being exploited... :-(

2. Sounds like the plight of many an 18 or 19-year old in this country. But
at least you can purchase liquor. Let's hope you don't need massive quantities of it after the next election, although I really don't think you will. Bush is heading toward the unemployment line with the rest of us. It's just too bad that you can't be there to help us.

11. they gave me that same line when I
applied for naturalization in november, they said it would take 14 months. I got fingerprinted mid december and have my interview scheduled in late may. so I should get to have my say at the ballot box. I'm going thro the CA office, it may be worse elsewhere or maybe they just say 14 months. unfortuneately my green card expires in april so I have to hand over another $130 for 1 month.

13. Write a personal letter (not email) to Saxby Chambliss. Explain you want
to vote Republican but are having problems with the bureaucracy.
(I'm serious, it can't hurt and it might work)!
:D

16. you know I do know some people who were on saxby's campaign
maybe I can convince them Im going to the dark side...they probably know better with my daily exhortation to vote against bush. (talked several of them into voting libertarian instead of bush! - best I could do with that lot)

14. What state do you live in?
contact your local Congressman. To find that person go here and type in your zip code in the section called "find your Rep:

http://www.house.gov

Hopefully you have someone responsive, but going to someone who isn't your Congressman won't help, as they just act for people they support.

18. the problem started
when it moved from the INS to the dept of homeland security last year. it used to take 3-6 months but I guess they were giving too many terrorists citizenship, or some other pantload like that.

19. What if you wrote back and told them you're voting republican?
...betcha your application would be processed faster than an order of Biggie fries at Wendy's.

Of course, once they expeditied your application, you would vote Dem...
