Some pictures of Aristide and what he did for Haiti, for the poor
Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 09:46 PM by Tinoire
See them quickly because they're on the web-site of the National Palace and will soon disappear.

Page Suivante means following page.

Feb 7, 2004 / Inauguration of 3 Public Places (pictures of the tremendous support he has from the Haitians here):

Feb 6, 2004 / Inauguration of the Universal Hospital of Peace

Jan 1, 2004 / Bicentennial celebration (More pictures of tremendous support)
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/bicenten040101/festi.htm

Nov 14, 2003 / Inauguration of New elementary School ((Aristide took the rate of illiteracy from over 90% to 37%)

Nove 14, 2003 / Picture of a university in a poor area
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/lycee031114/lycee.htm

Oct 17, 2003 / Commemoration of the assassination of Dessalines, the founder of Haiti (who as kidnapped and killed by the French; note the last photo with the people holding a huge banner demanding reparations from France for having blockaded the island after they had won their independence and making them pay France for the lost slave labor)
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/com031017/comm.htm

Oct 1, 2003 / Visit to Grand Goave a city that he helped a lot ((Too bad Bush can't circulate as freely among the people and be so welcomed))
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/goave031004/grand.htm

Oct 1, 2003 / Visit to a communal home for the elderly. WOW. I can not believe how much he did!
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/asile.htm

May 1, 2003 / Housing, real housing for the poor
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/zoranje/logsociauxzoranje.htm
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/lasaline/logsociauxlasaline.htm
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/katye2004/logsociaux2004.htm

April 8, 2003 / Clinton in Haiti
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/clinton.htm

Dec 22, 2002 / 10,000 children celebrating Christmas at the Palace
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/national.htm

Nov 8, 2002 / Visit to a poor area where 200,000 - 300,000 live
http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/album/ecole.htm

Can't look anymore.

It is clear after looking at these photos, why Aristide had to go.

Schools, free universities, hospitals, clinics, homes for the elderly, electricity, housing- what on earth was the man thinking?! Of course he had to go... And it is all being destroyed right now by the "rebels".

More pictures here: http://www.palaisnational.info/pnh/html/photos.php
for a little while at least

3. whew! I can sleep safe now
knowing that these horrible atrocities are being halted.

Schools & houses for the poor? What the hell was he thinking?

That's obviously a small crowd, anyway.

...thanks again, Tinoire. :hi:

4. Hey :) My mom just spoke to her aunt in Haiti
:hi:

It's total madness. There's shooting in the streets all night long and people are being slaughtered left & right. Some poor neighborhoods are being burned down.

The US is going to have a hard time herding all those people back into sweat-shops.

I just don't know how this is all going to end.

...putting together a small team of DUers who are ready to put it on the line. The implications are immense.

In case you're not familiar with my posts and you think I'm pissin' in the wind - being on-the-ground in "conflict areas" is a part of my job, and I spent a year-and-a-half in Haiti doing exactly that.

14. There's no proposal, yet. No, the conversation hasn't gone private, yet.
Sorry to be picky, but I wouldn't call what I'm thinking of a fact-finding mission. I'm not sure what I'd call it, but I'm thinking of something that's an all-together different animal...
