Your thoughts on website: Perverted Justice
apparently, volunteers do "sting" operations in chat rooms, then post the pervs picture and other info online.

What do you think about this? Is it helpful or does it violate some type of privacy? I am all for getting rid of child abusers, but is this a valid method?

1. I saw this on CBS news two nights ago...
...These stings are taking place in St Louis MO, that's John Ashroft's home state I believe. So, theses are not actual arrests but rather set ups to embarrass in this case lonely males. In a number of cases, the men are first targeted with spam emails suggesting they come onto the site, then once there, a person poses as a teenager and chalks dirty to them. They arrive and the cameras are rolling, the whole bit. Well, my question would be where do these protectors of our moral behavior, get the emails of these vulnerable males? Could it be that the Patriot Acts I and II have discovered habitual chat room behaviors and now have given these sting operators access to potential victims, excuse me, pedophiles, who never would have tried such a thing if the moral squad had left them alone. Missouri, John Ashcroft, Patriot Act, kinds all fits don't cha think?:wtf:

4. Mixed feelings
Initially, I thought it might not be a good thing. After reading the site's FAQ, I'm not sure.

They only out the guys who actually arrange a physical meeting. These are guys (the FAQ says they haven't busted any women) who think they're talking sexually to 14-year-old girls and then try to arrange an actual meeting. According to the FAQ the info is thoroughly vetted before anything is published. If the FAQ is accurate, it sounds OK, except that we've not sure their controls against falsely accusing somebody are always followed and are foolproof. I have reservations about a private group with no accountability doing something like this.

I have no opinion on whether the volunteers posing as underage girls get off on it. It's addressed on the site - they say it doesn't happen.

I do have a problem with the home phone numbers of the alleged perps. That could hurt people who might be innocent, such as family members.
