Accompanied by a police escort, the march began down Speer Blvd with Aztec dancers in the lead, closely followed by a huge banner for Red Earth Women's Alliance. The march turned left onto Colfax, with lots of cheering and songs. I quickly found my group of supporters, and helped carry a very large banner, which wasn't an easy feat in the wind. :)
As we arrived at our rally destination at Civic Center, we were greeted by the drums and chants of Indian songs. The rally opened with a dance by the Aztec group, followed by a song from another Indian group. The prayers and speeches were offered by Japanese, Muslim, Hispanic women, in their own languages. There were so many different groups represented that I can't remember them all. It was a wonderfully diverse crowd, not only in race, but in ages. Spirits were high, as we traded information, and listened to each other. One woman came by, passing out information from her group, Copwatch, and we talked about the Bill Moyers program last night on infiltrators. (or, is that just "traitors"?)
This was a great warmup for the March 20th events, and we're all ready to raise our voices against this madness!
Kanary ps.... I won't be able to be around today, so I'd appreciate it if this could be kept kicked for the CO folks. thanks!
