"Two New Jobs! Two New Jobs!"
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 09:55 AM by djg21
Yippee!

Bush's Economic Indicator: 2 New Jobs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., March 4 -- President Bush rhapsodized Thursday about the possibility that a stock-car firm in this hot, dry community will add two jobs this year, as he refined his campaign message of economic optimism.

Bush, seated on a highchair along with five small-business workers and owners, was speaking at a "conversation on the economy," a talk-show-type event the White House stages regularly in front of television-friendly signs that say, "Strengthening the Economy."

. . . .

Is this great!

We should be at the Repub convention chanting "Two New Jobs! Two New Jobs!" Think about the media coverage, juxtaposing the Repub mantra of "Four More Years" with our taunts of "Two New Jobs"!

Also, I love the comment about Bush being "seated on a highchair." I wonder if he had a bib, pacifier and rattle too?

The sorry excuse for a president is just falling apart! Maybe he needs to fire Rove!

1. I got the same mental image of the highchair
and as a small business owner, I'd love to add 2 new jobs, but had to cut 4 last during the course of the last year instead.

4. Yeah, I saw that also on the news and was looking....
at the screen with my mouth open, I mean, here is a large group of bush supporters beaming proudly when this small business owner proclaims with obvious pride "Well, I plan to hire 2 new people soon"
In keeping with that theme, I got the same, warm patriotic feeling last night when I saved 20 cents on a box of cereal I purchase at the grocery store!!

6. I used to live in Bakersfield . . . .
It's an oil town, so it's not surprising that Bush chose to speak there.

I also used to work for a law firm that did some legal work for the company Bush was visiting.

I find it a bit laughable that Bush would have the balls to visit a community where unemployment was over 13% in January.

8. 47 days slam 47 days slam
jr.* cheney, condi, colin, and rummy all walk into a bar and order a shot of whiskey. When the drinks arrive they all shout 47 days and slam down the round and order another.
The bartender brings their drinks, they all shout 47 days slam down their drinks, order another round.
This time the bartender ask them what they're celebrating, jr* beaming with pride, says " we just put a puzzle together and it only took us 47 days"
The bartender says "so what"
jr.* replies "The box said 3-5 years".

10. Quite a few came from Oklahoma. . .
and settled in Bakersfield and even more out in Oildale (yup, that's actually the name of a town. . . lots of KKK/skinhead/white power types out in Oildale, if you take the main drag from Bakersfield out to the airport in Oildale, you see swastikas painted on the overpass that have been there for over 10 years and no one has removed them.
No, I'm not saying people from Oklahoma are all KKK/skinhead/etc. . . just that Oildale has a lot of those types.

My grandmother on my dad's side moved to California from Oklahoma, but ended up farther north in Tulare county.

My grandmother on my mom's side was from Texas and her uncle Bill Woods is the one who really started the whole country music thing in Bakersfield which is how Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and many other got their start in the music business.

Yeah, the whole Bakersfield area is now, and pretty much always has been pretty redneck :)

Okay, sorry for sidetracking the conversation :).

Guess the invasions and pockets of combat elsewhere just didn't prove any more successful in bringing never-ending prosperity any more than his Dad's attempt of doing the same with his Iraqi war ... Desert Shield/Desert Storm did cause some activity in economic indicators, i.e., the Purchasing Manager's Index began to go up about 3-4 months after that shock and awe ... of course, junior profited from insider information re: Harken ... but, war is not the answer, dear Bushies ... Desert Storm didn't prove enough to convince people that Poppy Bush had any real concern for the economy or people or that socks could actually be scanned at checkout ... and, so, Poppy was released from the White House to continue his moonlighting job: complete organizing The Carlyle Group which was born on the eve of his term in office.

the last of the 'old' energy wars, and their repercussion on American security ... history will paint these people as the "old" way which lost out to an evolving human-earth friendly world

2 new jobs! did they say what income bracket these jobs would be, or if they were full- or part- time positions ... or permanent ... that word Shrub likes to use with tax cuts for his wealthy friends (including himself)

13. Two thoughts.
My 1st thought when I saw that article was that it was some kind of sarcastic op-ed, like on The Onion website. My 2nd thought was that the "two new jobs" talked about are going to be the Prez & Vice-Prez come Nov.

14. The local radio stations here in Bakersfield are still gushing about the
visit.

Yesterday I heard on news broadcast that talked about some protesters then the next sentence was about some "patriotic" students that got the surprise of their lives. I guess Bush met some school kids. It kind of said that the protesters were not patriotic.

This morning I heard that "the city is still basking in the after glow of the president's vist" Makes me want to puke.
