the Book on Bush, by Eric Alterman and Mark Green. They beautifully outline the events leading up to 911, starting with Clinton and ending with Bush in the classroom reading to schoolchildren. It is very clear that although Clinton did not kill Bin Laden, the Clinton WH was in a mad panic to stop him and kill him. There was a real sense of tension in the Clinton WH regarding Bin Laden. They had tried to kill OBL a few times, and one time missedby 30 minutes. They were also cutting off their funding and increasing the anti-terrorism budget and created a special office in the WH to fight terrorism. But then Bush takes over the WH and ignores the Hart/Ruddman report, ignores the calls from many other countries about the threat and even ignores our own FBI and CIA briefings. Bush's WH took a very laid back approach compared to Clinon and only had 2 meetings about terrorism before 911. Basically, all that Bush did was say that Cheney would lead a commission to look into al Qaeda (this never happened) and that he instructed his cabinet not to fly on commercial airlines....oh yeah,...he took a month long vacation!
