It doesn't matter if Osama gets caught before elections
We need to start getting that message out NOW, to defuse any bomb the Shrubbites might want to drop in October, trotting Osama Been Forgotten outta cold storage...
We are not going to be any safer with Osama in custody than we are with Saddam in custody; far from it. The Democrats need to hammer on this point starting now and continuing all the way, since we know Chimpy will claim credit for capturing OBL when it happens...make sure the public knows the truth ahead of time so we minimize the impact of presenting OBL to the world...

2. It's already happening
Editorial cartoons, quips by Dave and Jay and Conan, internet chat ... people will immediately think it's an October Surprise anytime it happens.

3. Knife cuts both ways.
If Democratic operatives don't talk up the OBL thing, and they pull him out of the hole in October, then we're behind the curve. If on the other hand they talk it up like they're likely to pull an October surprise, and OBL doesn't show up, then it looks like we were a bunch of paranoids that got all worked up and sending out warnings over nothing.

However, if OBL is captured prior to the election, it shows that Bushite kept his word to get him dead or alive. Whether we're safer or not will be secondary to the fact that we cut off the head of the snake to most people.

It's a tough call.

4. They're trying to establish the capture's legitimacy now.
I heard three reports this week about how close we are to catching bin Laden. It's a ridiculous thing to say- you either know where he is or you don't. If you only *think* you know where he is, the worst thing to do would be to publicly announce it.

7. Good Psychology --
Innoculation. I wish Dems used this type of strategy more often.

8. That's what Randi Rhodes has been saying...
Keep talking about the October surprise (capturing OBL) PLANNED by the thugs. She said if it doesn't happen, so what, but if it does....WOW!

As an aside, I think when they do trot him out, there will be a price to pay because his followers are going to be pissed.

No good can come from this.

9. Exactly, there will most certainly be backlash...this is a whole 'nother
ball game than Saddam and his thugs...that was pure power, and this is religious zealotry, which is infinitely more dangerous I think, in any form/religion.

10. the bomb will blow up in their faces no matter what
i don't necessrily believe in karma. but seems like everything is blowing up for the repubs these days. i hope they don't catch osama soon because i'm afraid it will set off a firestorm everywhere - especially in the middle east where our military is most vulnerable. catching him could be like throwing a match on fumes.
