AWD shocks the Republicans last night!

Four months ago, we were working our tails off to get noticed by Democrats in the 16th District. We had just entered the race to unseat Ralph Regula in Ohio's 16th District to the US House, and were virtual unknowns in the world of politics in Canton, Ohio. We saw before us a tremendous challenge....we had to convince not only Independents to vote for us, but Democrats as well.

We took that challenge and we hit every meeting of every Democratic club we could. We went to fundraisers for fellow candidates. We went to bingo halls, bowling alleys and local diners. We introduced ourselves to as many people as we could.

On January 2nd, we learned that there was no primary contestant against us and we would already be on the ballot in November. But we didn't slow down. We sped up and we went to more events than before.

We decided to focus heavily on Stark County, home of 55% of the registered voters in the 16th District, knowing we would concentrate on the entire district following the primary election. Our battle was an uphill one. In the 2002 primary, Regula pulled in 17,000 more votes than Democratic challenger Jim Rice did in their respective primaries. In the 2000 primary, Regula pulled in 35,000 more votes than Democratic challenger William Smith.

Last night, all that work paid off in a big way. Stark County told us they liked what they saw.

Last night, Jeff Seemann won Stark County by 8,000 votes over Ralph Regula.

This gives us several clues....the most important one being that the voters who have witnessed Jeff Seemann's campaign have liked what they saw, and they voted heavily in those areas. Ralph Regula had not lost a single county in a primary or general election in over a decade and a half.

This seat is now up for grabs. We've shown that we can campaign hard, and we've shown that we can convince voters that we are the right choice. We'll keep it up, and we'll win. Last night, the voters sent a loud message to our campaign and Ralph Regula's campaign. We heard that message, and we will continue our path towards voctory.

Now more than ever, we need your help to get the message out to the voters. We've formed the grassroots movement, and now we need to be able to reach out to more via direct mail, radio ads, print ads, and a full-time staff.
