Senator Coleman provides the morning chuckle
Senator Norm Coleman (R. Minnesota) was just on local Twin Cities TV talking about Kerry's "flip-flops."

Senator Coleman was, until recently, a Democrat. When there appeared to be no Republicans with name-recognition in Minnesota, he switched parties and became a Republican and ran for governor (Ventura won).

He ran for the U.S. Senate against Paul Wellstone and won that office after Paul's plane went down in Northern Minnesota.

Somewhere in the archives is a picture of young Norm protesting the Vietnam "war" in the same crowds as was Kerry during those years. Norm had a different name in those years.

Coleman is Minnesota's political eelpout.

1. Norm Coleman is a rubber stamp for Bush
I'm from MN and he ran as a Democrat in the St. Paul mayor's race. One month after the election, which he won, he switched parties to Republican.

A friend of mine describes this as: It's not Dem vs Rep, it's Rep vs Rep.

There are at least no illusions that we Minnesotans have one senator. Coleman ran on his intention to support Bush in everything. He'll be so lost without that hand up his ass when we boot Little Boy Bush out of the White House this November.

2. Coleman seems like the worst kind of politcal opportunist.
The worst insult of all, IMO, is that he succeeded Paul Wellstone, a passionate liberal and one of the most principled people to ever serve in the United States Senate.

I'll never forget an article Garrison Keillor wrote for salon.com after Coleman was elected in Novemeber 2002...describing Coleman as a soulless sellout without any convictions...anything to win.

All I can say is that when Coleman runs for re-election in 2008, I'll contribute to the campaign of his opponent (maybe one of Wellstone's sons...that would be fitting).

And I live in Illinois, BTW.

Terry

3. he vowed that in Sen. Wellstone's memory he would be against
the energy bill if it contained Anwr - and I believe switched to support it even before Anwr was stripped out of the bill.

4. He is a loser
And he knows he would not be a Senator if Wellstone hadn't died in a plane crash just before the election.

5. Norm Coleman is an asshat.
I can't stand that guy. In fact, maybe I'll call his office and give them some crap about him of all people calling Kerry out on flip-flopping. :)
