6. the same folks owned it
they had the money to start the news network, so they kinda owned it

Besides, if Murdoch bought the thing and made it his own, he couldn't buy too much more in the same market due to the (practically nonexistent) restrictions on ownership which are less likely to exist now.

2. I think he bought a chunk of Twentieth Century Fox
and started the "network" originally to showcase all those movies he bought.. The "news channel" was started about the same time that ABC had WorldWideNews running all night.. Perhaps Rupert thought he could knock them off, and we all know that CNN was the leader then..

When FNN started they actually covered the OJ trial pretty well..Late at night they just ran a scroll of the actual testimony..

I really only noticed them ginning up the Rightwing agenda during 1998 & 99.. I guess they startes "safe" and were planning their Rightwing roll out when the campaigning got heavy..

They started by trashing Clinton and ramrodded the impeachment.. Of course the rabid right could ALWAYS get a microphone at Fox, so I guess they just went on from there:shrug:

5. Allies was hired around the time limbaugh's show was cancelled
according to imdb.com, O'Reily and Hannity have been on there since 96, when they started

when Time Warner decided to pick MSNBC when they were forced to add a competing news channel on there cable systems after they bought out Ted Turner, Murdock tried to force local Fox stations of the TW cable systems

3. 20th Century Fox
Murdoch didn't come up with that. (some other rich white people from long ago)

He could change the name, but then it wouldn't be legitimate anymore. Well...legitimate in the corporate sense ;-)
