Demand a revocation of Focus on the Family's 501(c)(3) tax exemption!

Government guidelines on 501(c)(3) and lobbying:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p557.pdf

http://www.family.org/welcome/financials/2003annualreport.pdf

Note the line "public policy awareness." That's in millions of dollars.

Here's their tax form:

http://www.family.org/welcome/financials/2003_990.pdf

Go to their website- like, say, Family News in Focus. Or Citizen Link.

How much of this $4.9 million "public policy awareness" is really lobbying that is illegal? (Since they've got a 1 million dollar limit??)

Isn't it about time we cracked down on possible tax cheats ?

1. As someone who lives a block from their headquarters...
Please do whatever it takes to make sure these guys go out of business! Improve my neighborhood!

BTW- that Dobson guy gets free time on the Colorado Springs NBC affiliate to spread his views every morning.

2. It just sort of hit me...
I checked the IRS regs, I looked at their website- there's no way in hell their "public policy awareness" lobbying isn't less than 1 million dollars!

Somebody should look into this clown, and shut him down.

3. Not that I agree with Focus On the Family at all
but 501c3s are legally allowed to do some lobbying and public advocacy. This ability helps progressive nonprofits as well.
