Is the CA recall a plan to get Feinstein out of the Senate?
I know it's far fetched to think the right wing fanatics in California have any sort of plan at all, but is it even remotely possible that getting Feinstein out of the Senate and trying to replace her with a Republican is part of the recall backers plan?

Who would be in the serious running for her seat in the Senate from each party if she were to become governor?

1. Wouldn't surprise me if that was the plan
What scares me is if she wins the recall, then Ah Nold runs for Seante!

2. No, it's a plan to put a Repug in Sacramento
That's the only reason Issa spent his money.

3. No
If Feinstein wins then she gets to pick her replacement in the Senate.
They are more likely to want to get rid of Boxer than Feinstein.

5. But
The replacementg would most likely be up for election for the remaining 2 years of the term along with Boxer's 6 year term being up. This would be like 1992 when she won Pete Wilson's seat he resigned to become Gov. Boxer also won the open full term seat.

4. Feinstein's Replacement
That thought had occured to me about a week ago. Feinstein would surely win the governor's seat, and would then appoint a replacement. Perhaps Repukes see that Boxer is becoming unbeatable, and want a seat in California. Appointed senators only have a 40 percent chance of winning reelection, so the Repukes would have a shot. If Dianne does win, she needs to appoint someone who could definitely take this seat in a reelection (someone like Cruz Bustamante or Reps. Ellen Tauscher, Jane Harman, or Loretta Sanchez)

7. A question
Why is Boxer becoming unbeatable? I'm not doubting your claim; I am just curious. And I'll talk about Sanchez a few posts down from this one.

9. Recent Boxer polls

Also, Rosario Marin, the Bush-appointed frontrunner, isn't turning out to be much of a campaigner.

6. doubtful
there are plenty of people she could appoint who would have no shot of being beat by any Repukes.

Also she herself could simply run for it in in 2004 and let Cruz Bustamante become governor.

8. Replacing Feinstein in the Senate
If Feinstein did become the governor of California, it would be a golden opportunity for the Democrats. Feinstein, as governor, would be able to pick her replacement. She could select someone like Loretta Sanchez to court the Hispanic vote. In California of all places, that would have to be a good thing.
