Guy Phillipe's Hero is Chile's Pinochet
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 05:39 PM by Chicago Democrat
Right now Guy Phillipe is killing indiscriminately. His goons are opening fire in Aristide's supporters and carrying out political reprisals. Many are in hiding.

Guy Phillipe said his hero was Augusto Pinochet in an interview with the Miami Herald as reported on...

8. It still surprises me when fascists speak without code.
Time was, an aspiring tyrant worth his scholarship to SOA would have the sense to measure his words. To say, perhaps, that the man he most admires is Abraham Lincoln. Not anymore:

Philippe speaks in accented but correct English and talks with ease about military strategy, politics and literature.

...

He said the man he most admires, however, is former Chilean dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet, who was known for concentrating, not separating, power. "Pinochet made Chile what it is." No. 2 on his list is former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

If he weren't leading a revolution, he said, he'd rather be watching television. He likes old movies such as "Ben Hur."

12. I'm a bit surpsised at that candor too
regarding his open admiration for a mass murdering dictator. But I guess that explains some things....

3. Didn't you know? Pinochet is a great man
ask Ann Coulter, she said so herself in a column.

4. Phillipe is to Pinochet as Aristide is to Allende
Except for the fact that at this point in time, Aristide is still alive, history is repeating itself. Another democratically elected leader overthrown in a coup at the behest of U.S. orders. Guess that makes Bush a Kissinger, which is a compliment for Dumbya.

6. Interestingly enough.

I said this yesterday too but found it quite remarkable and worth repeating.

I was listening to a talk by Michael Parenti a couple days ago. He noted when Allende was overthrown the NYT remarked that "a large portion of the blame falls on Dr. Allende himself for pushing an agenda he didn't have a mandate for." (which is not true as he won more support in the second election)

Compare that to the official line we hear now. Basically the same thing. It is all his fault. He made us undermine him with terrorists and IMF pressures(embargo).

I think it was in AlJazera yesterday where I saw it put bluntly that "the biggest portion of the blame belongs on Aristide himself." lol. History repeats! They(aljazera) seem to be following the official line on this one.

13. If many of these people are under threat of death, why can't they come
to the US as political refugees? Is it just because they are people of color? If we can grant asylum to Cubans who under no such threat of death but just dislike Castro why won't we grant at least TEMPORARY asylum to these people who are being slaughtered?
