That "Gawd bless George Bush" "Sanctity of Marriage" thing signed by so many Fundies and funded by ???????

OK, you people "concerned about protecting marriage" I'm ready to engage in that public dialog you calling for. Bring it on.

First, given that most (50%) of heterosexuals (myself included) have made a miserable mess out of their own "Sacred" marriages (I had TWO go tits-up on me!) How about a Federal Law making Divorce illegal?
Shucks, after all, you see no problem with forcing a woman to have a baby she doesn't want, even one fathered by an incestous relative or a criminal rapist, so what's the big deal about going through life with somebody you absolutely CAN'T STAND?
After all, since Marriage is so "sacred" that it needs to be reserved for only hetero couples, wouldn't God be able to fix anything that was wrong?

What about those Baptists or Four-Squares or members of the UPC who get "Spiritually Divorced"? After all, they prayed about it (prayed real hard) and God told 'em it was OK, he made a mistake steering them towards their spouse in the first place, go ahead and get divorced....

If Homosexuals could have gotten married years ago, maybe I would have been spared the misery of my second marriage. I hope my ex got a chance to go to Frisco.

Well, I'm ready for the public dialog, c'mon you trolling lurkers, quote Leviticus at me.

1. Indeed, My Friend
Anyone serious about restoring "Biblical Marriage" would be agitating for an end to divorce, reinstitution of polygamy, and recriminalization of adultery....

"Can't nobody here play this game?"

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

11. I think you'd best watch what you say...

Don't give the fundies ideas, at least about ending divorce or criminalizing adultery. Some of them would love the idea!

BTW, though, they are using polygamy as a way to claim the right to forbid same-sex marriages.

2. That may be going a little far
Maybe just a law to make remariage to a third party illegal after a divorce :)

3. I've been thinking the same thing....
The worst thing happening to the institution of Marriage is divorce! If * is so intent on saving marriage, he ought to be talking about an ammendment to outlaw divorces! Boy, don't you think that would go over big in his Pub Party!!!!!!!!!!!!

6. You're right! Bet that'd go over great.

Since one of the arguments against Gay marriage is the ability to birth children, They need to apply the same objections to Heteros, too.

If you're infertile, there's no reason to marry, since one of the tennents of Marriage is to raise family. Older people who have run out of eggs and hormones would be barred, as would men who don't respond to Ditka Pills. fertility treatments would be outlawed, since those go "against GAWD'S Law", too....

Couples who choose to adopt would have their marriages annulled, since adoption is available (subject to draconian restrictions) to Gays also.

Yes, if the main reason to get married is to create rug=rats, then why do i want to get married? My girlfriend is long out of the baby business, and having tasted the joy of "empty-nested-ness" I sure have no further desire to reproduce.
I can't wait to try this line of un-reasoning out. Bet pastor never coached them on that one...

9. And no couples in their 50's, 60's, 70's, etc. can marry
Does anyone know how many people marry when they are too old to conceive?

5. Several years ago
The state of Louisiana (I think) introduced the concept of sacred marriage vows. Couples wishing to marry under these sacred vows would have a harder time getting a divorce. Does anyone know how that turned out. Did it strengthen marriages?

7. Divorce hell, lets bring back stoning
That'll teach people to keep it in their pants. I wonder what the new biblical laws will be called?

8. Woulda spared me a couple heartaches, too,
if homosexuals had been allowed to be themselves in public. But, hey, let's just ignore the ones who somehow managed to develop enough self-respect to demand any rights. Let's continue to pretend it's really fun and special to be married and teach our kids - especially the girls - that they must pair off with a member of the opposite sex in order to be happy and have value and everything. It is, after all, the only way most people can afford to live anymore.

10. I heard a pretty good quote this weekend...
Legalizing gay marriage would encourage people to become gays and/or lesbians in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

Something like that.
