Specter of a Giuliani administration
Will we ever escape 9/11?

The insanity of an RNC in the world's most anti-Bush city begins to make sense.

Bush is to Giuliani as the farce to the tragedy. The nation's inchoate fascism will have a leader worthy of the name, not the pale caricature of the Idiot. Georgie talks the Mussolini talk. Rudy means it.

Well, at least he will be a secular fascist. Tolerance for gays, long as they DO marry, coupled with a no-mercy approach to opposition of any kind.

Giuliani: Bush's dream ticket

BEN MCCONVILLE IN NEW YORK

US PRESIDENT George Bush is ready to pull off the biggest shock of this year's election campaign by naming Rudy Giuliani as his running mate at the Republican convention in Manhattan in September.

Giuliani remains the most popular politician in the US and speculation is mounting that Bush will announce the former New York mayor as his vice presidential candidate as the country marks the third anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The Republican party has already carried out canvassing of voters to assess how much support Giuliani has across the country and, according to reports, received high levels of public support.

The public has not forgotten Giuliani's stoic leadership in the dark days after 9/11, when his words and actions became a beacon for the American people.

1. Giuliani will have trouble
if Bush chooses him as the VP because of the bush administrations current position on gays. Giuliani would be a liability

3. Rudy would be ripped to shreds by his gay friends
Including the ones he lived with whilst going through his big divorce. And the fundies aren't likely to embrace a divorced pro-gay Republican either.

5. Cheney has served his purpose
The neocons were the diversion for what the Cowboys were going to do regardless. Cheney's just a CEO. If you're looking for the chairmen of the board, the ones who can replace him, you'll have to start with Papa Bush and James Baker 3.

12. But why would the PNAC kick themselves out of power?
It doesn't make sense to replace Cheney with Giuliani in terms of the PNAC power structure. They won't let go of the White House. If Cheney becomes a horrible liability (the Plame Investigation, Halliburton scandal) why not a Bush/Bush ticket? Jeb, unlike his brother, actually is on the PNAC board.

8. Cheney can still continue
to run the country from behind the scenes. He doesn't have to actually be in an official position. There are lots of people running things in this administration who have no official position at all.

If Cheney thinks it's better for the image or electability of the ticket, he will allow it. His real status in the administration won't change.

6. I doubt Shrub's fundie base would
go for that, why?:

Support for gay rights
Openly Adulterous
Italian-Catholic
New Yorker

That's just off the top of my head, but I really don't think the freeps would go for it. Besides, he would outshine * in the popularity and charisma department, and I don't think that would go over to well w/ the administration.

14. hmmm...
so with the fundies the Bushies can lose spectacularly... whereas with Giuliani they might get Schwarzenneger-like numbers.

It's a question of who is really in control within the elite coalition of Bush Mob (a.k.a. IranContra Crew since before there was even an IranContra), the elite globalists (who have Kerry as well set up for their purposes as Bush) and the Real Christians. I think the latter are disposable to the first two.

And I think PNAC/neocons is an ideological phenomenon; they provide the rationale for what the real elite wants regardless. And they (the same crew of Wolfowitz, Perle and Likud intellectuals) have been doing so a looooong time, before they morphed into PNAC.

Lose with Dick, win with Rudy... what do you think they'll choose? If it wasn't him, Dick would be the first to throw Dick off the sled.

15. I guess I don't really think that they
will get "Schwarzenegger-like" numbers with Rudy. I just don't think Giuliani is going to play well in the red states, and he certainly won't with the religious right. Also, he's a Yankee and he's not a Washington insider. That's going to turn off a lot of his base. I don't think Rudy is going to help pick up the numbers THAT much.

When you really look at it, they just aren't a very compatible team.

7. uh oh.
not good for us.

I guess they are worried about the Plame thing blowing up, no awkward questions to Cheney about his daughter, and Giuliani would be "set up" for 2008.

9. Just a reminder
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 07:55 PM by lancdem
the Scotsman ran some of the worst articles during the Kerry-intern faux scandal.

BTW, I don't care whom Bush picks as his VP. It won't make a difference. Dan Quayle didn't keep Poppy from winning, and Lloyd Bentsen didn't keep Dukakis from losing.

10. I think Giuliani has too much baggage
I just don't see the same people who crucified Clinton for his relatively minor improprieties being willing to go for a guy who tried to move his mistress into the house that he was still sharing with his wife and children while he was Mayor.

I know the pukes are incredible hypocrites, but this one seems over the top even for them. Maybe not though, I guess we'll see.

11. Great choice Mr. Marriage Sanctity Prez!
Shortly prior to 9/11, wasn't Rudy-boy (gotta have a Bush nickname) embroiled in a nasty Anti-sanctity DIVORCE?

This Family-values, sanctity of marriage, right to life group would be making a big mistake with Rudy.

One can ask: "Rudy, in the absence of terror attacks, where your leadership was impressive, will you resort to cheating on your new wife?" "What God joins together, let no man put asunder?"

13. Yes he was
His divorce from Donna Hanover was quite ugly and quite public.

But aside from that, Rudy would not make a good national candidate for the republicans. Bush's base would be horrified to have a pro-live candidate on the ticket.
