Is anyone else worried about the right wing extremists going violent?
Between gay marriage, the crumbling economy, Bush's sagging popularity, and the increase in "they deserve death" rhetoric, I am starting to wonder if we're not going to see a massive uptick in hate crimes in the next year or so -- especially if Bush is defeated.

The freepers are even nuttier than usual -- something I thought not possible. They're calling for people like Mayor Newsom and Carol Moseley-Braun to be "arrested," or even physically assaulted. I am in dread of waiting for some of their nuttiest ranks to try something. Am I just paranoid, or do you feel the same chill I do? :scared:

1. They are all talk
Why do you let people like that frighten you? They are blowhard bullies who only attempt to scare the timid.

they like to talk tough but don't buy into their bully boy threats. Everyone's a tough guy on the ineternet. Most of 'em are in the safe confines of their parent's basement and haven't had a date in years. Wimps and pussies - all of 'em.

11. Violence will be perpetrated by intelligence black ops
should bushler's poll numbers deteriorate beyond the ability of Diebold to fix the election credibly.

The pros (corporate owned mercenary black operatives) will step in and create "leftist incidents" causing imposition of martial law and the cancellation of the November election.

Whether or not there are adequate patriots in the military that will step up and stop the neo-con corporate globalist alliance from continuing their take over of Amerika and the world will dictate the endgame.

Freepers are all talk cowards. If it comes to civil war we will kick their asses handily.

tell his friend that "Bush is the greatest leader this country has ever seen and represents our glorious future" or something weird like that. It reminded me of Heidegger, the German philosopher who said, "Adolf Hitler is the past, present, and future!"

16. Yes, and unfortunately I think
it is just a matter of time before some of these fanatics go off the deep end. While a * defeat will be great for the country and the world, I think it's going to be the last straw for a lot of these fundies who are counting on their "God Appointed" saviour to lead them to the rapture.

Their whole world view will be shattered, and I can't imagine that they will all just shrug their shoulders and go to therapy. It's going to get ugly, no matter what happens in November.

harm third world countries and our loved ones. No need to worry about an armed freeper uprising. If I was married to a freeper I might think twice, though.

20. They talk scary
to make you scared. Last year at the anti-war demonstrations they came around yelling at us, the most memorable comment being that Bush was the Second Coming of Christ. This is a small place, and all demonstrators were known. No one hassled us, however. (Which was not the case when we protested clear cutting in the area, but that's another story!)

31. God forbid (pun intended) JFKerry gets what JF Kennedy got from a nut
or black op neoconquerer. The way public opinion is going, Diebold may not be able to sneak W back into the WH without stark contrast to exit polling so his competition might be neutralized. This tactic has been used repeatedly and with success.

and that is, as a very well-armed liberal here in Texas, I say let 'em go ahead and try it.

They are a bunch of blowhards. A lot of hot air. I know guys like this in real life and when push comes to shove they fold. When your convictions rest on exclusivity and bigotry, they don't tend to be strong enough to stand up to a REAL fight.

When your convictions rest on inclusivity, compassion, rights, strength, then you've got the good fight in you.

I think it is THEY who should be worried if the election in November is perceived to be rigged in any way.

VERY worried.

Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 07:34 PM by I AM SPARTACUS
...in a hate crime. It's not like that hate-crime targets are going to be strappin', well-armed folks who are able to put up a fight...

I'm thinking that it seems fairly likely that hate crimes - attacks on individuals, vandalism & arson, blatant discrimination - these WILL increase. Perhaps sporadically, but that doesn't comfort the victims much.

Now, I've seen (upclose) what happens when a society completely loses its mind - Balkans, Rwanda. Are we there...not quite yet, maybe. But there's no black-and-white line where this goes out of control...and it seems evident that some people in the US have already rooted themselves in that grey zone...

I have been thinking the same thing.

On top of the threats being made against Newsom and Braun, we have that woman editor calling for the deaths of LGBT folk, and our supporters.

All it takes is for one nut to think they could get away with shit, and begin a killing spree against queers and dems. I include all dems because as far as these right wing idiots are concerned all dems support queers.

These certainly are dangerous times.
