Kids fare gets Fs even at sit-down restaurants
Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Food choices for children at table-service restaurant chains aren't necessarily healthier than the food offered at fast-food outlets, according to a survey released last week.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest said the bulk of menu choices for kids at table-service restaurants -- french fries, chicken fingers, burgers and pizzas -- have enough calories, bad fats and salt to make a McDonald's Happy Meal look like a healthy feast.

The survey of 20 of America's biggest table-service chain restaurants that offer kids' menus showed that all but one menu offered french fries and 85 percent had burgers.

1. Our kids would never even look at the kids menu
The selections were awful back then, and I am sure they are no better now :(

Our boys had gourmet tastes.. A waitress one time about keeled over when our then 5 yr old ordered crab legs..:)

2. My daughter LOVES crab legs
She makes a tremendous mess with them, but she loves them just the same. She's in elementary school, and takes sushi in her lunch. She eats jalapenos, uses hot sauce, orders giant salads at restaurants, etc... She's so cool!

3. One of our biggest "restaurant brawls" was when we
told our middle son , who was about 3 1/2 that he could not order salad bar.. They had no child's portion, and it was $6.95.. We knew he could not eat that much, so we told him no.. You would have thought we incinerated his teddy bear, the way he carried on..

The waitress , asked him what he wanted to eat, and he told her how mean we were ..that we wouldn't "let" him have salad bar because it cost too much, so she gave it to us for half price..:)

Our three always ordered "real" food..

4. Oh, you should see...
When we eat crab legs here at home. Each once in a while, I'll cook a huge pot of crab legs. We're talking almost 3 lbs. for the 3 of us. My daughter and I have always been big fans, and my wife just "discovered" what the fuss was all about maybe a year ago or so. Anyway, the mess is soooo bad. Little pieces of crab somehow manage to fly more than 10' from the table. It's awful. We just cover the table with butcher's paper and go at it.

See, now you got me wanting crab legs tonight. lol
