2. I gotta go with Powell
He postures as the reasonable man in an out-of-control junta, but goes to the UN and lies out of his teeth in order to win support for an invasion for which there was no real case.

Please don't tell me he had bad intelligence or otherwise didn't know th true facts. I don't believe it.

3. Powell- Dishonorable
Of course he new they were all lies. Just a year before he stated that Iraq was not a threat. I can't find the qoute right now but I have posted it on another BB before.

He is lying about Hati, as well.

4. Went with Zell in your poll.
His name springs to mind when the word 'weasel' is mentioned. The yuck factor on Zell is running sky-high this winter, with no sign of diminishing.

11. In defense of Franklin Pierce --
-- I would just say that he was a spectacular failure as a politician, but an admirable friend to his friends.

There is a hauntingly eloquent passage by Julian Hawthorne, son of Nathaniel Hawthorne, written when Julian was I think 13. It is a strikingly emotional letter, offering deep praise for Pierce the man. Not Pierce the president, but the human.

Besides that one slither, I'm 1000 % with your post.

14. For what it's worth, Pierce's likeness
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 03:03 AM by Art_from_Ark
was Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Great Stone Face".

16. Hi, Art from Ark -- for me anyway, it's worth a lot --
-- thanks for posting that. Much appreciated.

I'm afraid I'm a Franklin Pierce fan. Not the president, but the human. The relationship with Hawthorne is pretty interesting.

Anyway, I have serious thoughts about a screenplay about Pierce & a few beginning notes.

(Johnny Depp to star as Pierce. Still thinking about who will play Pierce's emotionally unhinged wife... oh -- and I'll need several million dollars, too!)

18. Be sure to include plenty of gratuitous violence in your screenplay
That seems to be the magic formula for selling a movie these days (he says, only half jokingly).

By the way, I visited New Hampshire many years ago and saw both the Great Stone Face and the old Pierce homestead, spurred by Hawthorne's book. Unfortunately, I arrived at the homestead after it had closed for the day and was only able to walk around the house and look in through the windows.

Where's John Kerry?
You should at least have him on the poll.

I am sure he wouldn't get a large percentage of the votes, but let's be realistic. The guy has been calculating politically for at least the last 2 years.

I like him for voting against DOMA. I like him for calling the
Vietnam war as bullshit. I like him for going against Reagan and his evil little Latin American Wars. But he fucked up when it came to Iraq.

6. When it comes down to it: Colin Powell
For his speech in front of the UNSC where he stated estimated amounts of lethal chemicals that Iraq had. He knew he was lying, and by his demeanor in the weeks following the speech, it bothered him.

No matter how the 2k4 election goes, I'll be glad to see this political opportunist gone.

8. Tie Between Chumley and DumLey
That'd be the VP and Delay. They both are as close to the complete ahole as a person can get.

If I were to write a book called "The Complete Ahole", it'd have to include numerous references to both.

12. Definitely Powell...
since the others may be scum, but at least they are straight-up scum and seem to actually believe the shit they spew.

Maybe Powell thinks he's fighting the good fight behind the scenes, but his performance at the UN was toadying at its lowest.

He was the only one who had any hint of honor in that den of thieves and he threw it all away to be a good little toady. You have to wonder whether Colin knows the difference between serving your country and serving your masters.

He is also a testament to the pink tu-tu leadership in the Senate which hasn't kicked him out of the party despite his endorsement of an anti-gay amendment AND endorsement of Bush for president. WTF?!?
