In an article in the BangorDaily this past week, I noted with interest that Pfizer, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, has decided to clamp down on the "re-importation" of drugs to the US from Canada. This is, in my view, an unfortunate turn of events.
I think it is time that Pfizer and the other drug manufacturers heard from the buying public. Perhaps it is now time for us to emplace a nation-wide boycott of Pfizer products, both over the counbter and prescriptiion. Pfizer manufactures and sells such familiar househlod names as Benadryl; Cortizone; Desitin; e.p.t.; Listerine; Lubriderm; Neosporin; Rolaids; Sudafed and Visine. Many of these products are in my own medicine cabinet. These are Pfizer over the counter products and represent a significant portion of their bottom line. I am able to find many reasonable substitutes on the shelves of my local outlets, and will personally be changing manufacturer's lines immediately.
On their website, they list a number of prescription products as well. A short list of their more well-known products include Celebrex; Lipitor: Relpax: Viagra: Zoloft and Zyrtec.
With regard to their prescription products, I see no reason why we should not ask our doctors and pharmacists to write and fill our prescriptions from their lists of pharmaceuticals from other manufacturers.
I think it well past time to remind these merchants of greed who is footing the bill for their products.
