BBV - Gonna make a visit -- Here's what we did (so far)
- Mother Jones coming out with a big article.
- New York Times doing a series of editorials.
- Just did Pacifica Radio, Digital Village interview and they slammed the judge who denied the TRO. They also picked up on the meme "Gotta Be Replaced" and asked for the names of who should be REPLACED.
- Did two documentary film shoots here in New York. Have done four altogether.
- A major piece will air on Austrian TV (shot here in New York, heh heh) -- it will air, I think, Tuesday or Wednesday
- Folks from the ACLU got a visit and more visits to follow.
- Met with Al Sharpton's people
- We're keeping the most promising meeting quiet, don't want to jinx it, until it bears fruit.
- And, as I've been saying, this issue ain't gonna go over to the American public until we get TV, TV, TV --

- Did Democracy Now with Amy Goodman. The transcript of that is online, sorry don't have the link but it's easily findable by entering my name into Google News

- Watch for coverage on Wolf Blitzer, CNN on Monday

- Set up to be the keynote speaker this coming week for 3,000 activist lawyers. Read between the lines on that.

We still have a long ways to go. Now go tell five more people -- word of mouth is very important!

Love ya all -- had a WONDERFUL dinner with nostamj and Stephanie and associates, and they are an absolute blast in person.

I'm hoping to have one more thing to announce in the next week or two, from this trip. Andy Stephenson is fantastic; if this one comes through, it was another TEAM EFFORT that paid off. Keeping fingers crossed.

Bev Harris

too bad. we could have gotten shots of Andy singing "Georgia On My Mind" to Bev.......... an inspired song choice! we were falling out of our chairs laughing (and he has a really good voice too!)

the pianist held up the BBV book he gave her and introduced Bev to the room.....

Cassettes are already passe and I'm still a little apprehensive about whether or not CD's will really catch on.

I hate to throw money away on 'flash in the pan', 'high tech' gizmo's that seem to get replaced over night! :)

I have a projector that does both regular and Super 8 MM with sound and it cost me $28.00 for a new bulb a few years ago so I want to get as much use out of it as I can before I'm forced to upgrade!

I hear with 16MM film I can get pictures and (((stereo))) sound! :bounce:

7. Harris and Stephenson
I am actually an introvert by nature. The Harris and Stephenson synergy really works. If it was just me, I'd hunker over a computer doing research and writing. It is Andy that lights the match under the people network. I don't know how he can stand traveling with me -- I get very crabby when we are on tight timelines and have had little sleep.

This is a project with some urgency, which needs very high energy levels and a complimentary set of talents.

I forgot to mention that another documentary film producer followed Andy around last night as he schmoozed with Palast, and other great folks.

8. Well, I was on the guest list
but was up at 5 a.m. and geez, shouldn't party with you the night before nostamj. We had a nonstop blitz. The documentaries, especially, are tiring because they have to shoot the same scene over and over and it tends to take hours.

Nope, I didn't go. Nostamj, you shoulda told them your name was Bev Harris and you'd have gotten in. Except that I'm not 6 foot plus with a nicely trimmed beard.

Thank you Bev and Andy. We're doing our best here in Travis County, (Austin) Texas. We phone banked our local Democrat precinct chairs to get a resolution on the state party level today. Looks very good. Our primary is on March 9th and we hope to work the republicans this week too.

Thank you for all the hard work you have done to get us here.

23. Its good to see that this is getting into the mainstream media...
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 09:51 PM by Thucydides
what some one needs to do is reach out to the average Joe conservative. I had a thought about how to do this, but am basically a political novice. I am also not very computer savvy. My thought was that if some one had the no how to get on some popular conservative web sites and not in a confrontational way. Bring up the discussion about electronic voting, my guess is that most right wingers probably see this as working in their favor. However if someone were to mention it say, "I have been reading where liberals lately are ranting about electronic voting machines can be rigged. Personally, I have been giving considerable thought on the subject. If there is any truth to what I have been reading on the subject, there may be some cause for concern. What if liberal operatives were to hack into these machines and throw the election in there favor? Think about the ramifications of lefties being able to steal our votes". So on and so forth, I think thats who we need to get to. If their base starts bringing up the question, we might have a better chance. Any thoughts on this?

25. Hi Thucydides, Welcome to DU!
If you click on the links in post# 5 you will find a wealth of information about these machines and how both Republicans and Democrats have had their election outcomes called into question when these things were used. I suppose if you were to 'cherry pick' the sections where conservatives have been harmed and then ask about those races.....

I have some friends that recommended this site and have been lurking for sometime. I have not been to politically active in the past, but I have been getting fed up with the BS that is being passed off as "what is good for America". I am tired of standing on the sidelines and am ready to defend my liberties by getting very active and DAMN vocal.

41. Andy had the flight attendants on the plane holding books up
They were mesmerized by the topic, and I saw one of them lecturing another person about this topic, and how important it was.

Now, we have to get the media to back off this "conspiracy theorist" label, or we have to take ownership of it and make it a compliment. You see, I can describe a bona fide security hole and they imply it's conspiracy theory, instead of saying I am an investigative writer scrutinizing the security of these machines.

When they called me a conspiracy theorist directly, I began hitting them with orders to retract or be sued for libel. So now, they do it by implication. That is also libel, and I think it is easier to go on the attack to get them to report this accurately, as a story about stunning security flaws and a writer who exposed same, than to try to redefine the public perception of conspiracy.

Pisses me off. Especially when you see that calling my work "conspiracy theory" is specifically in the Diebold PR talking points. That's all they have -- they can't refute me on the facts, so they engage in name-calling.

Bev

42. Bev, have you seen the NYT today?
I can SO see Andy working that entire plane!

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/29/opinion/29SUN3.html

Rob Behler isn't saying Max Cleland's Senate seat was stolen by rigged electronic voting machines, but he insists it could have been. Mr. Behler, who helped prepare Georgia's machines for the 2002 election, says secret computer codes were installed late in the process. Votes "could have been manipulated," he says, and the election thrown to the Republican, Saxby Chambliss.

Charlie Matulka, who lost to Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska the same year, does not trust the results in his election. Most of the votes were cast on paper ballots that were scanned into computerized vote-counting machines, which happen to have been manufactured by a company Mr. Hagel used to run. Mr. Matulka, suspicious of Senator Hagel's ties to the voting machine company, demanded a hand recount of the paper ballots. Nebraska law did not allow it, he was informed. "This is the stealing of our democracy," he says.

Defeated candidates who think they were robbed are nothing new in American politics. But modern technology is creating a whole new generation of conspiracy theories — easy to imagine and, unless we're careful, impossible to disprove. The nation is rushing to adopt electronic voting, but there is a disturbing amount of evidence that, at least in its current form, it is overly vulnerable to electoral mischief.

43. "conspiracy theory"
maybe I'm overly optimistic but it seems that the 'questioning' of these systems is becoming mainstream.

when that happens, the "conspiracy" tag will go back where it belongs:

on the voting machine industry and the officials who accept their defective, dangerous products.
