Crucifixion is a deterent
With all the buzz about St Mels recent 2+ hr snuff film. I wanted to go back and look at the evidence about the act of crucifixion. Seems that JC had plenty of company. Historians say that from about the 6Th century BC, crucifixion was a method of execution among the Medes, Persians and Seleucids of the eastern Mediterranean.

"It was a public and degrading punishment designed to "deter".

"Alexander the Great is said to have had 2,000 survivors from the siege of Tyre crucified on the shores of the Mediterranean"

I also wondered what it would be like if we could all go back in time to 33AD. Imagine the following.

Reporter from the Roman Times (Jerusalem Edition): "Great Leader, what did the prisoner say as he died?"

Great Leader: (In mocking, sarcastic pitiful voice, lips twitcing, smirk showing) "P-p-please forgive them, they know not what they do...Now watch my drive."

There you have it folks. The electric chair of the 1ST century.

1. You have a point..
I've never understood Christians who support the death penalty. By far, most churches do not, but Al Gore, John Edwards, what is up with that?

4. Easy comparison.
Two creeps who attacked sovereign nations without provocation.

Or were you thinking of Alexander as something admirable? Was he only 16 when he brutally put down a Celtic uprising? And let's not inquire too closely into his father's assassination, shall we?

6. I actually never saw where Christ spoke words against
the death penalty. But He did speak often about forgiveness.

7. and he was a psychological mess
hey, we might be on to something here.
The would-be world conqueror who was also a chronic bed-wetter, frequently heavily-drugged, living in fear of a controlling mother and trying to live up to the mandate of his father...

8. Prison.
How long does it take to die in an electric chair? 2 minutes.
Burned alive? 30 minutes.
On a cross? 3 days.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lingering in a supermax prison? 30 years of wishing for death.

And yet those who oppose death penalty consider themselves humane.

11. The disgusting thing is this
I am a devout Greek Orthodox Christian who believes in the "teachings" of Jesus. He is about as far removed from the far right as cats are to dogs.

I don't need to watch a sick, sadistic, snuff propaganda film to be "enlightened". But, what is really sickening is that the folks that say we all should go see this movie, would scream at the top of their lungs about media bias if we were to happen to see a photo of an Iraqi child with arms and legs blown off.

Want to see suffering. Take a look at the "effing" war that has been unleashed.

Makes me wonder. If 100 troops could go in and kidnap Aristide, why could we not do the same with Saddam. Then again, if we did that, who would control the oil.

10. Just saw a thing on the history channel
Seems like a real bad way to go. Asphyxiation over 18 + hours depending on whether someone was kind enough to break your legs for you.
