Anyone checked out Sulllivan's Blog lately?
ok, this is just wierd - I'm agreeing with damn near everything Sully has to say on his blog (www.andrewsullivan.com) these days.

Check it out:

EMAIL OF THE DAY: "I voted for President Bush in 2000 and planned to do so again in November. My reason: national security and the man's seeming personal integrity. As a Jew, I had a gut-level fear of the Christian Right but (1) did not believe Bush shared its worldview and (2) saw fundamentalist Christian support for Israel as indicative that the Christian Right was not anti-Semitic.
Then, in one ten day period, I saw the Christian Right go into rapture over a film that is blatantly anti-Semitic (I saw it today), saw Laura Bush both indicate approval of this film and empathy for those disgusted at the idea of gay marriage and then the President made his speech supporting the amendment.
I'm straight and also a Jew and, to me, the Bushes - sensing defeat in November - are going to tap into homophobia, anti-Semitism and whatever else it takes to secure their base.
I was never part of that base. Jews, gay Republicans, African-American Bush voters, Hispanics are not part of the base but, add our votes to that of the base, and the GOP wins.
But now it loses. Jews used to be the canary people. Jews still play that role but today, even more so, that role is played by gays. You can judge a party or a leader by how he treats this group, the one group it is still safe to hate in America.
Well, Bush has failed the test. I will not be part of the gay-bashing, Mel Gibson adoring, xenophobic America that the Bushes consider their base.
This canary has no intention of dying from the poisonous gas of hatred. I'm 58. I have voted for every Republican nominee since Nixon and without regrets. Until now. I wish I could take back my 2000 vote. But, in any case, I will work to get out the vote for Kerry or Edwards. I will not vote for a President who secures the basest elements of his base by dividing Americans.
And you know what: he is going to lose. That gay marriage announcement was the desperate act of a desperate man."

And there's a helluva lot more like this on his blog. Interesting.

7. I think he was kidding himself up until now
but all is forgiven as far as I'm concerned if he's truly seen the light and helps with Operation: Liberate U.S.A. this fall. We need everyone we can get to outsource Bush.

4. Sully ....
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 02:06 PM by Trajan
has switched ...

Imagine ... HIM working to get votes for a Democrat ...

This is huge in blogville and was <edit:NOT noted on http://www.TPM.com a few days ago: who did mention Sully's defection ???> ...

I swear: with all of the 'GOP Convert' anecdotes shared in DU over the last week, Im beggining to think that the bullshit handed out by Bush/Cheney/SCOTUS/Delay/Hastert to the american people is going to maim the GOP for decades ...

The GOP 'could' get SLAMMED this November ... I mean: an honest rout .. ALL of Congress AND the Presidency ... Wow ....

I think the tide is TRULY turning, and the FACTS that have been presented HERE and other similar sites, those FACTS that have been denied by moderate GOP supporters, those FACTS that are now being revealed as honest FACTs, and exposing the GOP's dishonest dealings in all areas of government .. THOSE facts are sinking into psyches of the naysayers, and they are now seeing what we have seen all along ...

This Gay Amendment fiasco is a loser: ... They were better off just criticizing gayness from the safety of the pulpit ... now they are exposed to defections from their own moderate ranks and wholesale loss of trust with moderates and independents in general ...

Are we seeing the self destruction of the GOP for years to come ?? ..

Damn I hope so ....

Give'm enough rope ...

11. from somebody else
but that was the shortest clip I could find that indicated the general tenor over in Sully-Land.

I honestly think that B*sh has now lost the remnants of the moderate / rational GOP.
How long until McCain goes independent a la Jim Jeffords?

10. thats interesing...the implied connection between Jews & Gays.
..how the emailer noted theres a certain similarity in the roles these communitys play vis a vis larger society..the "canary in the coal mine" analogy.

Actually there is a book about this connection, or tangental experiene:

Queer Theory & the Jewish Question
