Calling Howard Stern! Calling Howard Stern! Now's the Time to Embrace him
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 09:08 AM by seventhson
Okay - Let me get this out first: Howard Stern is one of the Nastiest performance artists ever. His show is revolting and twisted.

It is also sometimes absolutely rivetting.

Top performers go there to talk. People I would never think would lower themselves, go on because Howard has ratings. People watch. They KNOW it is gross and insane - but it is DIFFERENT. It's whole purpose is to freak you out. It is like playing the dozens and trying to insult someone's mother so that they cry and run home - proving what lack of guts you have. But it can be funny. "your mama's so fat they named her a National Park and set up a picnic table".

Howard essentially gave birth to the concept of the "Shock Jock". His show is, in my opinion, sometimes the most horrific pornography. Debasing, crude and infantile. Disgusting.

Sometimes he has the most beautiful women in the world there and sometimes the ugliest.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!

The Extreme Right and the BFEE want a Culture WAR???

Let's give them a FARKING Culture war!

WE will win!

FREEDOM wins out every time over these pathetic loser fascist fundamentalist anal retentive homophobes and hypocrites.

If we embrace Howard Stern and support him (under the theory that we find what you say vile but will defend to the death your right to say it) THEN we will have a HUGELY influential ally to defeat Bush.

We Might even ask Howard not to be so nasty in the future. But we do NOT need to FORCE him to in an environment where the prevailing cultural value on the right is the CULTURE OF DEATH AND ANNIHILATION!

So therefore I am asking DUers - and particularly some who have wider audiences than we do - to do the following: EMBRACE Howard's fight with Bush. Talk about it LOUD and LONG

and LET'S TAKE BACK THE MEDIA!!!

We need folks like Symbolman and Moveon.org and many others to USE THIS OPPORTUNITY! Howard can be a champion for freedom.

I remember the first time I became aware of Howard Stern. I was driving delivery in Washington DC and the 'burbs. His ads were on TV saying what a bratty kid he was and how outrageous he was.

I thought he was ridiculous, but I was charmed and intrigued by his lack of taste or cares about "convention" and prudence. He was giving the people something different.

SYMBOLMAN? Where are you?

Others Like Mach1 who have websites? Will you help?

Where are we? Check in.

If DU can align with Howard Stern we will get LOTS of publcity. People will learn the truth. About 9-11. About Osama and the October surprise. About Bush Awol and the Nazi riches which made him who he is.

and MAYBE, just MAYBE we can defeat Bush in Novmeber

CALLING HOWARD STERN.

DU WANTS YOU!!!!

On Edit: I know some here will disagree. Many may say WHO WANTS TO BE ALIGNED WITH THAT NASTY PERV?

But who is WORSE?

Bush - who gets in illegal and immoral wars based on lies and gets tens of thousands brutally murdered for his cronies profit and political gain?

Or Howard Stern who has used freedom of speech to exploit the madness of our immoral and lustful (and even sadistic) society for money?

Howard is on OUR side now. We need him. He is a heavyweight in many ways. He reaches millions and he can draw them to our cause for freedom.

We must defend his right to speak freely and his efforts to oust Bush and his criminal warmongers and their hypocrite fundie worshippers.

1. Solidarity With Stern!
Love him or hate him, the man is a complete and thorough professional. He plays the microphone like Stephane Grapelli played the violin.

He could talk about every supposedly-disgusting topic under the sun and was largely left alone by the wilfully-toothless FCC. But let him open up on the Boy King and he suddenly becomes "indecent?" Something stinks hugely here!

The Regime has picked on exactly the wrong motherfucker this time. Stern has been afraid of precisely no one so far--and the Showman in him knows that this is more publicity than money could ever buy.

The Pigvomit Parade will very soon regret screwing with Stern!

:bounce:

When they came for Stern, I did nothing...

2. Well I have to admit I've enjoyed his shows from time to time
but during his career he has mostly been a Republican so I really doubt that he will align with us in any way except on a few issues (mostly those concerning him).

I think we can do better, after all we have Al Franken, and he's still funny, smart and doesn't use sexual jokes to make a point.

7. Franken can preach to the choir
but Stern can speak to the masses who otherwise would NOT vote.

This is the equivalent in some respects of the dudes in pickup trucks with shotguns and confederate flags or NASCAR dads.

We need every vote and Howard's silencing can recruit millions, I believe,

But only if he USES it and WE use HIM.

I walked into a room with 4 lawyers and 2 MA's and told them I had been to hear Dennis Kucinich speak. NOT ONE of them knew who he was.

This is the level of ignorance in our country.

People pay attention to sex and violence. It gets their attention (actually violence is tapering off - we are burnt out, though fear still sells bigtime).

Howard can get their attention. And get them to vote.

Can you see Howard supporting DU because we support HOWARD?

It would be a LOUD merging of interests around freedom.

10. This Has Nothing To Do
with free speech in the Constitutional sense. Clear Channel has every right to put or remove anybody they want form the air, they are a private entity. When the government bans Howard Stern, THEN we have a free speech issue.

If people want to boycott Clear Channel because the dropped Howard, that's OK. Just like people won't shop at Wal-Mart, you vote with your dollars. But this is not a free speech issue.

4. "Now's the Time to Embrace him"

Sorry I just cannot do that....he has cooties!

Glad to see he doesn't like AWOL anymore, but
that is not enough for me to even think about
getting close to him. YUK!

6. There is a cultural war started by the extreme right wing
People are dying.

Stern has an audience and a voice.

He has been attacked by the Reich.

And he can helps us.

We need him now.

8. I agree completely
Having Stern actively against BushCo is an enormous help.

We will need a landslide because this election is going to be rigged.

Stern is a tremendous ally. Just reading the quotes here of what he has said the last week proves that.

He got taken off the air because he is such an effective communicator, because having Stern as your enemy is a huge problem. Especially since he saddled up with them completely with the Iraq invasion. Especially since he hasn't done this before.

He calls them fascists now.
He implores his audience to vote against Bush.
He calls them a regime.
He calls them The Taliban.
And his audience is largely apolitical. He is going to spend 9 months telling them to be political.

We need people screaming about BushCo. It's that bad.

Clear Channel banning Stern was a blessing for us. It was a wake up call to at least 17,000,000 americans.

9. Howard's going to laugh at you!
Stern doesn't need anyone to "take him into the fold". Right now he's ABB and that's good enough for me. If a bunch of condescending "politically correct" liberals start writing to him (especially asking him to not be "so nasty") you're going to be laughed at.

You obviously have no respect for him or his show outside of it currently fitting the ABB agenda.

Please - just let this play out on it's own without fucking it up. If anyone wants to write to anybody - write to undecided apolitical "I wouldn't know a policy issue if it bit me in the ass" friends neighbors and co-workers.
Talk about it LOUD and LONG

Sounds like the best idea to me.

11. I disagree Obviously
Stern is only human.

If he knew we were supporting him he would likely appreciate it.

No he does not really NEED DU at all.

But mutual cooperation towards a common goal is probably something the King of All Media could relate to.

He could use us and we could use him.

That he will not likley laugh at.

Thanks for your support. I appreciate your input and will keep it in mind the nect time I try to say or do anything productive (sarcasm on)

16. Well....I knew you disagreed
before I bothered posting.

I didn't realize that disagreement wasn't allowed. Your 'sarcasm' is much appreciated though. I happen to think your idea is counterproductive - but go ahead, have a blast!

13. 17 million listeners is reason enough to have him on our side. Also,
Stern is going to have Al Franken on as a guest sometime in the near future,if he's still on.

I've been listening to Stern for about 6 years and I love the guy. He's offended me, pissed me off and made me laugh my ass off. Stern may be an entertainer but he's one that has a large and LOYAL audience who don't want him off the air. If he goes off the air, there will be thousands, maybe millions of people who will do something about it. If Stern says vote for ABB, I'm sure a large percentage of listeners will do so.
