President May Give His Acceptance Speech At Ground Zero???
And now, direct from Ground Zero, heeeeeeere’s the president!”

Well, that’s not exactly how President Bush is likely to be introduced when he gives his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention on Sept. 2, but it might be something equally dramatic and theatrical.

According to sources privy to convention planners’ discussions, the 2004 GOP conclave at New York’s Madison Square Garden will be unlike any previous quadrennial gathering of either party. In fact, not all of the main events will be held at the Garden, sources involved in planning the Aug. 31-Sept. 2 convention said.

“The entire format and actual physical setup could be radically different,” one GOP insider commented. “They might not even have a podium, or maybe a rotating podium or even a stage that comes up from underground. It would be like a theater in the round, with off-site events that are part of the convention.”

The source, a veteran official of past GOP conventions, said the 50,000 delegates, dignitaries and guests would watch off-site events on giant TV screens. “Now, we’ll go to the deck of the USS Intrepid as the U.S. Marine Corps Band plays the National Anthem,” he said, pretending that he was playing the part of the convention chairman.

“Or, and this is a real possibility, we could see President Bush giving his acceptance speech at Ground Zero,” he added. “It’s clearly a venue they’re considering.”

33. A million pissed-off protesters? Let 'em try.
They won't succeed - I imagine our New York brothers and sisters alone will see to it that the traitor-in-chief hears them loud and clear.

produce a video with him saying he can only give 1 hour to the 9/11 investigation. This will help in getting him out of the White House.

14. Mission Accomplished?
Would he hang a banner saying this in the background?

Why should this shock us, our "president" has politicized 9-11 & The War on Terror practically from the beginning.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that while 9-11 was horrible for the nation (in many ways) it was a GOOD thing for Dubya?

Or is that such a repulsive thought? If I'm out of line, fellow DUers, please tell me.

17. I've always thought that too
That 9/11 was good for him. I think fewer people would be as in love with him if he hadn't appeared so strong after 9/11 (in THEIR opinion). I also think that's how rumors got started about Rudy Guliani (spelling?) being the new VP, 9/11 helped him, too.

Sick!

35. Repulsive? Yes. But it's also true.
In fact, 9/11 was verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry beneficial to the unelected criminals in office.

One might even say rather way too conveniently beneficial.

and pretends like he's a war hero and stuff.

And maybe he'll use phrases like "shadowy henchman", like we're reading Marvel Comic books.

And then he'll grab his plastic turkey and go find WMD's in Iraq.

Because we wouldn't want "the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud" or anything...

Worst. President. Ever.

The acceptance that is a complete and total loser and couldn't be trusted to run a 7-11, let alone a country? Acceptance that he has royally f**ked up everything he's ever touched? Acceptance that he is the most hated and dangerous chimp in the world?

This will NEVER happen!! :grr: :grr:

20. It's boring construction site.
Where's he gonna do it, the entrance to the PATH train?

Here's a tip: it would have to be outdoors, and the yelling of the demonstrators would drown him out.

But you go ahead and do it, George. What a slimy, exploitationist, PR stunt to make of the graveyard of over 2000 people.

You go ahead, George. Hell, I recommend it.

Wait a minute. The Republicans will be at the Garden, and George and his mini-army will be at the site, under floodlights? In the dark? Has anybody mentioned this to the Secret Service?

What a logistical nightmare. The Garden. Positioned over Penn Station which is patrolled by National Guardsmen. A BUSY BUSY BUSINESS area. What are they going to block off? How will they deal with ordinary rush hour, never mind the protestors?

Events taking place all over town, but the conventioneers are trapped at the garden, watching TV?

Has anybody spent two minutes on transportation? The Javitts would have been easy. City could have gone on as usual. This is going to be a very expensive nastiness.

27. Fortunately for us
Since the jump suit prance, all of his pub stunts look stooooopid. Every time he tries to evoke an image of leadership, everyone thinks back to the SS Lincoln. When he proposed going into space, all the toonists drew him in a space suit. That phony pilot stunt killed all photo ops for him, IMO. This one will backfire too.

Especially since he's been talking about NOT politicizing 9/11. I'm sure that the screams of outrage at that bit of audacity will drown out anything that could be gained from a capture of bin Laden.
