Beliefnet.com
I'm 45 (middle-aged Mom). I split from the church 30 years ago when I was 15. Six months ago, I found the congregation for me. But if anybody out there wants to be spiritual and does not know what's right for them, there is a great test at beliefnet.com.

I came up 100% correlation with Unitarian Universalist, and 80% with Church of Religious Science/Science-of-Mind. I'm very happy now in a C.R.S. congregation.

Also, religioustolerance.org has a lot of info.

I did not want my 7-year-old's mind to be filled with confusion when she heard about evangelical beliefs, etc, so I researched what was right for our family.

I only correlated 10% with Catholicism or conservative protestant. So apparently the 700 Club is not for me (but then everyone who knows me knew that).

1. I did the test a long time ago and was also Unitartian followed by
Quaker.

I am actually exploring the Methodist Church as of late because they encourage *disagreement* and even thought. Imagine that!? ;)

Their motto is open hearts - open minds - open doors.

2. Wow ... churchs that encourage open thinking ...
like mine and yours. Poor extremists! This can't be good for them. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. I also correlated well with Quakers. I'm happy for you. My point is that we are not helpless individuals ... who have to go along with intolerance or exclusiveness or repression.

3. They are great congregations out there ....
I guess you just have to analyze/ball-park your beliefs and go out there and try 'em.

Have you seen this?

It's the website for "The Center For Progressive Christianity."

http://www.tcpc.org/

Snip below...

"Do you have religious interests and longings but cannot accept the beliefs and dogmas you associate with Christianity?

Are you repelled by claims that Christianity is the "only way"?
;)

I consider myself a Christian, but not in the classic *born again* sense. ;) Tolerance is important to me in my faith.

Old joke told by both UU & UCC.

7. Thanks for the input, guys!
There are choices out there! The Center for Progressive Christianity is another 'great referral' as we say in Social Work. I can refer people. Thanks.

8. I came up as "Mahayana Buddhist"
:wtf:
But, I guess I'm not much of a mainstream Christian...oh, well.

Glad you were able to find a congregation this way! Isn't the internet wonderful sometimes?

If only the service didn't start so early in my neck of the woods LOL.

I do think I have to check it out because I've heard great things.

16. I did that one too. I think I came up
(I can't remember the stats)something between mainline Christianity and Quaker<----LOL Who knew!

I recently looked up the United Methodist and their tenets of faith align with mine: service to the poor,in community AND in politics, and tolerance of everyone. Haven't pursued it yet; still hanging out and doing my own thing. 55 yr old, former "fundie".
